If any one at Newark needs a stethoscope, I have an extra one for sale. It's a Littmann Classic II S.E. new (color is orange) and also selling Informatics book. Just let me know.

Good luck on testing. Stop by the Student Lounge when you have a chance to see the board for any thing like apartments for rent/books/etc. Some of you may be spending a lot of time in there when your semester begins.

Hi forum members! Major congratulations to those accepted into the program and finishing up the recent term. I received my acceptance letter for Summer 2011 and look forward to meeting everyone during orientation.

Has anyone received any information regarding the clinical sites? Are we free to choose the sites or is it assigned for first term students? I am asking because I don't have a car at the moment and was looking to commute by train from Hoboken to Newark. I am not sure how feasible this is if we need to travel back and forth between classes and clinicals. I would appreciate your suggestions.

    Congratulations, jypark

I don't believe we get to choose our own clinicals as far as I've heard.

Join the facebook group to chat with more Summer 2011 Newark students.

    See you next month.

You cannot chose your own clinical site but they do have an accommodation form that you can fill out requesting a specific clinical site that is closer to you from whichever of the 3 hospitals they will be at for that semester (and judging from a few friends that have had to be accommodated for travel purposes, they have honored the requests). Right now we're at UH in newark, RWJ, and Raritan Bay. Clinicals aren't the same day as classes so its not too bad.

If an applicant was previously in a four year nursing program but failed the program the end of junior year and switched majors, do you think that will decrease the chances of getting accepted into the UMDNJ accelerated program in Stratford? Now I won't be graduating until December of 2012 with the new major.Any advice to prepare me for when I apply at UMDNJ in the Spring of Summer of 2013. Also, does anyone know what type of Financial aid is available for those Persuing a second degree.

I have classmates who were in nursing programs for one reason or another before. I don't know if they did anything different to get in but I know they got exempt from one or two classes. As far as financial aid, the only thing available for second degree students are loans or scholarship if you're lucky.

Hello, I am not currently enrolled in any of UMDNJ's program but am looking to apply. I wanted to know if the accelerated BSN is doable if I have a one year old daughter even though I would not work during my time enrolled in the program. Also can anyone tell me a little bit about the accelerated BSN's schedule?

It's hard work but doable, including with children. Some of my classmates started the program with 3 mons old babies with additional children, however they have a lot of support at home and say they wouldn't be able to do it without the support. There are ppl in my cohort who also work and are passing. It's very doable.

You will be constantly studying. First Level (semester) is spent in class from 8am on Tuesday thru Wednesday, with clincal/lab on Thursday or Friday. You can look at the schedules on the website: UMDNJ-SN ABSN Newark Campus. This is for the Newark campus, it may be slightly different for the Stratford campus.

Word of advice. If you are applying for a particular semester, make sure you hand in all your stuff at least 6 months prior. ~90% of my cohort had applied to get in for the previous semester, however, it was full. The admissions dept is horrible!

Thanks Glad2baSN! Also I read that the program requires 60 hours a week. Does this include studying/reading time outside of class hours?

That's probably study time as well. I'm constantly studying since I began the program.
