New Jersey does not issue temporary permits for new graduate practical (LPN) or professional (RN) nurses. Only a few facilities will hire "GN" s (graduate nurses) or GPN's (Graduate practical nurses) and permit them to complete orientation and precepted skills in NJ while waiting to sit for the NCLEX-PN/NCLEX-RN. New graduate APN/nurse practitioner candidates can apply to the BoN for a work permit letter to begin practice while waiting for certification.
