Hey Everyone!!

I've just registered for classes at Bergen Community College :typing

I have taken all the college pre-req's for A.A.S and now am re-taking my science courses for the Nursing Eve. Program, as it's been 5 years since I've been to school....:dzed: I am taking Mat 032 (because I stink at math) & BIO 109 (A&PI) for Spring 2009. Then I have PSY 106 & BIO 209 (A&PII) for the Summer session. AND THEN CHM 100 FOR Fall 2009, whilst I apply for the Nursing Eve. Program, the Application Deadline is Oct. 1, 2009!!!:omy:

Here's the issue at hand, since I've been out of school so long, my brain seems to have been misplaced and I can't remember a darn thing.... :brnfrt:I've been reading books and taking practice tests, to prepare myself for the Entrance Exam in Oct. 2009, but my average seems to come out to an 80, and the College Math Practice Tests I completely fail all toghether!!

I was wondering do you really need to pass the Accuplacer (or whatever they call it now a days) with a 95% or higher. What does this mean you can barely get a question wrong.. ???

Is the waiting list truly long for the evening program?

I know it is competitive and I am certainly willing to do the work, but I am not A student more like a B, B+ student... with the exception of math that I have to struggle to get a B....

:plsebeg: Any insight and information and suggestions and experience is helpful. Have you recently passed the entrance exam? What can one expect? Do you need letters of recommendation prior to taking the entrance exam? Is it helpful?

did you look on ratemyprofessor before choosing which class to take ?

i suggest:

a&p1: benedict

a&p ii: saleh

sociolgy: behn

pysch (both): wiater

i am taking chem now with ramaydal and have not received anything under a 90 on the lab reports and exams. you will have to work....but he is a good prof imo>

and yes…you need to do well on the accuplacer, but before being given an invite….you need to make sure your gpa is on point. they just lowered it to 2.75 from 3.0.

letters of recommendation do not seem to be necessary at bcc.

Yea hopefully with 3.0 and higher in these next few classes I'll be able to raise my GPA up, I am really excited about going back to school. In the past when I've retaken classes I've went from D to B+ etc... It was when I was younger I didn't take school all that seriously. Now that I am in the work force, I completely love school go figure! Thanks for your input. Do you have any suggestions as far as reading material and supplies that one may need for these classes... I'd like to get a heads start on reading material at least.. :D YOU'RE THE BESTEST... Maybe we'll have a class together or not :) KUDDOS TO YOU!!!!

I always crossed referenced the textbook with the Dummies or Idiots books. Also, if you go to the Pre-Nursing student forum, there are people over there posting helpful suggestions, notes and websites to help supplement the required books.

I also called the depts before the semester started to get a copy of the syllabus and an jump on the reading.

Ohhh my that's an awesome idea about getting the syllubus!!! I thisnk that would be great there no better feeling than the feeling of being prepared, that way I'll have more time to concentrate on the labs n lectures. Thanks a lot!

Just took the entrance test on Nov. 17th - it was (if I remember correctly) 20 arithmetic questions (fractions, decimals, percents), 12 algebra questions (monomials, polynomials, radicals, solving equations, factoring, etc), 20 reading comprehension questions, 20 sentence structuring questions, then forty minutes to type a 300-600 word essay on a random topic assigned by the computer.

I would suggest for those students who need to refresh algebra to either buck up and take the remedial class (pain in the heiny, but makes the algebra test so much LESS stress having fresh info) or ATLEAST take the 1-credit algebra refresher course at Bergen.

I got my Accuplacer score, but haven't an inkling of a clue what it means! I supposed I have to wait until they send the letters......:banghead:

Know how to write one (beginning, middle, and end summary with appropriate content in each- grammer and punctuation do count) and be prepared for any off the wall topic (mine was "If you could be anyone for a day, who would it be and why?").

The program is extremely competitive (when I enrolled, something like 800 people we're turned down) and is extremely grueling once you enter it. If anyone has any questions just feel free to ask.

Your accuplacer score should have a percentile ranking. When I got in, it took a 95% or better to be considered and due to the fact that so many had applied, there we're people turned away that scored higher than that.

As far as the job search goes, I am lucky enough to have a wife that has been a nurse for 20 years and I have offers within her facility already. No real search has been needed.

Summer internsips can be applied for when you are entering level 3 so that you can participate during the summer. They are extremely competitive to get into as well so it is best to apply early. I am sure you will receive information on them when you complete level 2.

As for the clinicals, I myself have been to Valley hospital, Hackensack hospital, Pascack Valley hospital (before it closed), St. Josephs hospital in Patterson and Christian Health Care. There are other facilities that are used as well but I only took part in the ones listed above.

i didn’t know you were a male student…..you can really help me out with the info…hehehe

you mentioned internships…….externships are the same correct ? meaning the same thing and are very competitive right ?

have you ever encountered any issues during the clinicals where a patient didn’t want a male student nurse caring for them and how many male student nurses were in your class / group ?
