NJCU ABSN 2014!

U.S.A. New Jersey

Published

Hi! Just thought I would start a new thread for NJCU, 2014 applicants! - Any thoughts/concerns regarding the application process or help from alumni is greatly appreciated! I'm applying to the Wall cohort for this May.

Is that average from everyone taking it in the US or just for NJCU? just curious

The average for NJCU but both cohorts are under one ID so it is for both Wall and JC.

Nice to know :)

Good for you...that's amazing!!! Congrats!!!

Math shouldn't be too much of a problem for me, and as for the vocab, I made some notecards with the words I didn't know from the HESI study guide (hopefully that will help a little). Reading comprehension..I'm hoping it'll be straightforward. Trying to just study the bio and A&P as much as possible. The only thing that's left is prayers!!! If I don't do well on this HESI then I'm sure my application will get overlooked :(

Hey everyone!!

Congrats crazyfrog that's awesome! I just took mine yesterday and got a 91 overall. My nerves were eating at me and math isn't my strong side so I started with that first, then went to reading comprehension, vocab, and grammar, as those all have 55 questions. A&P and bio had about 30 each. I really didn't think the test was bad at all. One thing I definitely should have done was slow down and read the questions carefully for A&P...but it was my last section I chose to do and I think I was tired/wanted to finish because I definitely would have gotten a higher composite score since I got an 84 on that and in the 90s in everything else. I'm definitely still happy with the 91! I loved how I could see my score immediately after each section. This could be both a positive and a negative. I finished with 2 hours left. And the math was NOWHERE near as bad as I thought it was going to be.

So anyone who's taking it...I suggest doing the longer sections first and leaving your strong subjects for the end.

Such a relief to have it over with! Now I just have to pray that my transcripts get to NursingCAS on time :(.

Good luck to everyone who is taking it soon!!! Wall cohort applicants...we're on our last lap! JC cohort applicants, I'm jealous you have more time for your transcripts to upload :)

I agree with you. By the last section, my body just wanted to get out of there and that affected my reading comp score. I'm not sure I could have scored over 90 composite if I had rushed to finish it in 2 hours like you did. I only had 34 minutes left on the clock when I was done. My goal was to get over 90 and I would have been happy with 91, as well. So, good job!

@#sarsoora8 Don't stress! You will do great! Good luck!

Out of curiosity, did any of you find out the average undergrad GPA for students who was accepted in the previous year? I attended an open house last year and she said that they will see your undergrad GPA and etc. NJCU is being so vague when they say they view all elements of the application.

Thanks everyone! I'm taking it on Thursday..I hope it's not as hard as I think it will be (so many mixed reviews)

Just got back from taking the exam. There were more questions than I expected: 30 on Bio and A&P, 55 on reading comp. Based on the scores I received, 5 questions in each section were experimental and not factored in scoring. You get 4 hours so take your time and don't rush it. A lot of the vocab questions were nursing related. A&P seemed more specific than in practice test. What else...can't think...

Interesting about the experimental questions! I had no idea! And A&P was definitely more specific than what was in the study book I used. [i used Trivium's test prep book]

You'll do fine sarsoora8 :) I was a nervous wreck going into the testing center, because there were tons of other people there (and the people who worked there were not the friendliest). Once I sat down in my little cubicle in the silent room filled with over 35 people, it was just me and the test. The nerves will go away, I promise!

Thanks tinemarie! I just want it to be over :) then I can relax a few weeks before stressing about admission!
