few questions...really confused right now

i am still a high school student, and going to be a senior next year. I moved here, the U.S. three years ago(permanent resident), and i started high school as a freshman, i don't know if i need to take toefl to get in any nursing schools or program? and do i need take toefl also to take the NCLEX in the future.

hi, no you dont since you will be going to nursing school here in US. TOEFL and CGFNS only applies to

those who are planning to take the NCLEX but went to school outside of US. hope this helps.

The only reason you might need to take TOEFL or equivalent for collegiate studies is if you are an ESL student and/or have difficulty with the standardized English placement exams. The BoN only requires if you are an internationally educated nurse check the admissions requirements of the college of your choice.

And i checked the couple colleges, and the nursing program. it says non native speaker need submit the toefl score, but under the international student section

Contact the admissions office, not only are the staff very helpful but they are usually excited to speak with a prospective student you should be able to obtain a lot of valuable information. They are usually in the office over summer break as many students visit on summer break Do it now before you enter your senior year, this way if you need any additional classes you can be sure to take them in your senior year. Your situation is semi-unique as you are a non-native speaker, HS student, and a LPR who completed ESL not an international student. You may be exempted from the TOEFL and just need the standard placement exams like other students entering.

. If you are bilingual in a "common" language (French/English, Spanish/English as opposed to specific dialect to a random 1 mile island located in Antarctica) that should be a tremendous asset especially if the language/culture is common in your community. Not to mention your ability to assimilate into not only a new country but also a new language.

Plus this will also give you an opportunity to inquire about potential scholarships and grants as now is the time to start applying. Tylenol usually has an annual scholarship for nursing. Don't forget to also check with your HS guidance counselor for direction and scholarships as many forget this resource.

Unrelated story when I was in HS my grad class was nearly 500 but I had a 1 in 10 chance to win a $2500 renewable for 4 years scholarship. The only requirement was to accurately complete a postcard with the required information and submit to my guidance counselor. Only 10 out if 496 seniors bothered to enter.

I don't think you'd be considered an international student as you have had your high school education in the US. You could always send an email to the schools you are interested in and inquire if you received your high school education in the US, if you'd be considered an 'international student'. Best of luck.
