Bergen Community College Nursing Program Question

U.S.A. New Jersey

Published

Last Thursday I was at the college for the purpose of collecting my Chemistry grade with some classmates. Apparently, there was a graduation ceremony for RN's going on that night as well, and my friends started talking to one student to ask her about the program. I didn't hear the entire conversation, but one of my cohorts told me the student had stated that ELEVEN people had failed out of NUR-181 alone during her course!

Now, there's always a chance there was some sort of misunderstanding or miscommunication, but does this sound right? For what it's worth, I would think the application process and competitiveness of getting in to the program would assure a strong student population, so it makes me nervous to hear these things. I already received some insight from someone privately, but I was wondering what the public population made of this info.

Thanks!

infomation came in the mail today!! Orientation January 18th!! Can't wait to meet everyone!

I got mine today as well!! I'm so exited. When are you guys doing your CPR?

I got mine too! I am excited to meet everyone :) I have my CPR scheduled for January 7th in Ridgewood through American Red Cross. Is anyone signed up for that class? It's definitely last minute since they require us to take it before January 9th. Eek!

I signed up for the same class on Jan 7th.

Happy New Years everyone!!..what happened to all our recent posts??!!??

Happy 2012!! I hope you're all enjoying the long winter break. Only a couple more weeks left til orientation! Woo hoo!

Hi Everyone!I have an LPN license from Vermont, and I will be attending the RN program in BCC.. Does anyone know if I have to do a dual ?... Thank You!

Hi everyone! I have a question. I thought I did all my research but I'm just getting myself more confused. The deadline for the nursing day program(Fall 2012) is Feb 1st. I just recently sent in my change of curriculum papers since I had to wait for my fall 2011 gpa to come out. Is the deadline for the background check/entrance exam due Feb 1st OR just that change of curriculum paper application? Do I have to get accepted first depending on that change of curriculum application and THEN allowed to do the background check/entrance exam? If anyone can get back to me as soon as possible, that would be great.

You have to "apply" or do the change of curriculum by Feb 1st. Then after the deadline, you'll get further information on your next steps to do background check, once you clear the background check you'll get further info regarding entrance exam. Hope I'ive helped!

Thank you so much! You definitely cleared it up for me. Do you know when the deadline is for the entrance exam? I basically want to know how much time I have to study for this exam.

Also another question. I do have the required gpa but it's on the low side. Can I still get rejected at this point and not receive further information such as the background check and invitation for the entrance exam?

Hi Sunny,

I believe the required gpa is 2.5 (correct me if I am wrong someone!). So, if your GPA is at or above a 2.5, you'll receive further information from the school which will give you instructions and deadline information for submitting your background check. Once the school has a clear background check, they will then send you a letter and/or email with instructions for taking the HESI exam. I'm not sure exactly how much time you'll have, but I based on my experience, I had at least six weeks to study for the HESI. My application was due in September and I sat for the HESI in mid-November. If you go back several pages, you'll find a post that I wrote immediately after taking the exam with some of the topics to cover. This may come in handy :)! Also, the school is more concerned about your HESI score, so although your GPA isn't as high as you'd like, do not get discouraged. Start studying for the HESI as soon as you're able to and ask us for help if you need it. GOOD LUCK!

Kristy
