Bergen Community College Nursing Program Question

Published

Last Thursday I was at the college for the purpose of collecting my Chemistry grade with some classmates. Apparently, there was a graduation ceremony for RN's going on that night as well, and my friends started talking to one student to ask her about the program. I didn't hear the entire conversation, but one of my cohorts told me the student had stated that ELEVEN people had failed out of NUR-181 alone during her course!

Now, there's always a chance there was some sort of misunderstanding or miscommunication, but does this sound right? For what it's worth, I would think the application process and competitiveness of getting in to the program would assure a strong student population, so it makes me nervous to hear these things. I already received some insight from someone privately, but I was wondering what the public population made of this info.

Thanks!

Does anyone know where I can go to get a Hep B shot that doesn't cost $$$ ? I have my first Hep B which I got in Florida, but my second shot is past due. Did anybody get a Hep B at the Bergen Co. Health Dept? I am on their website, but I can't seem to figure out if they offer the vaccine or if they simply offer referrals for the vaccine (the site is confusing). Any advice would be great. Thanks :)

Hi, my name is Meghan, I'm in the evening 601 class starting in a few weeks. Has anyone signed up for insurance yet? I filed through the NSO but haven't received confirmation from them yet and am having a hard time getting in touch with them to see why??!!

Hey meghan! I'm in 601 also! ... I also got insurance from them but they sent me an email with my official docs about 3 days later. When did you apply?

Hi Krissy!

I don't know about Bergen Co Health dept, but Hudson Co offers them for $7 or so here is the site for more info I believe there is a # at the bottom. New Free Immunization Adult Program

Also, if you call health services at Bergen they should be able to refer you to a place as well.

Hi. I am also in section 601. I will see you guys on this Wednesday.

I submiited my application for Fall 2012 back on January 26th, 2012. The application deadline was February 1st, and I have all the pre-requisites. Can someone advise approximately how long does it take to hear from BCC regarding your application status. Thanks in advance

you have probably heard from them by now...it took Elsa around three weeks to post it on bergen as nursing major pending and send email saying it was approved to proceed...they usually email u info that your applicationwas accepted and tell u when u should proceed with your backgroundl check. i believe by now it shouldve been done...at least i know that med sonography applicants are already completed backgraound checks and all the health professions are in synch b/c they take HESI at the same time....Good luck on HESI!

Thank you very much for your response. I will send an email to Elsa.

hey! i am getting ready to take my hesi a2 exam for bergen cc, can any one point out what i should be focusing. i bought the evolve book and used it as a guide. my friend said the class average is 94?! at this point i am panicking!

I am in the level 1 nursing program. Here are some thoughts about the entrance exam:

1. The evolve book is a good review for what will be on the test, though it won't be everything. Know all the vocabulary in the book. I had quite a few of those words on my test, though some others said they didn't.

2. Chemistry and biology have their own sections so make sure that you review that and go over basic concepts of both disciplines.

3. There is NO WAY that the class average is 94. The nursing program tells you that if you get an 85 or higher (with some variation based on the students taking the test) you should be in good shape to get into the program. My results page had a listing for "class average" and it was in the mid-70's.

Good luck!

thank you for replying so quickly! i have been studying for about 2 months now and my only worry is chemistry, was this section specific? and do i need to remember the periodic table? my exam is in 2 weeks and im quite nervous.

Hi Rory92,

I am a Level 1 student and trust me...a lot of my classmates got into the program with scores in the mid (and lower) 80s. Don't panick! The most important thing I have learned in this entire process is to not listen to what everyone around you is saying. There is so much negative chatter that goes on on these websites and at school. Last fall, other applicants were all saying that you "had" to get a 90+ score to get into the program and so I went into freakout mode. The reality is that only a few people who entered the program had scores into the 90s (when I asked to see my placement compared to others, I quickly glanzed down the page at other scores and didn't see many 90s). However, that doesnt mean that you shouldnt study your butt off :). Study your hardest and do your best!! I scored a 91.75 on the Hesi and immediately posted study recommendations. Go back several pages and you'll see the post that I made with a list of what to focus on. The Hesi book was a great source for the vocab (make sure you know most of the words in the book!), and it was great for the math as well. I would pull out some of your old science books though and refresh yourself on biology, chemisty, and maybe a little anatomy as well. The test isn't too difficult, but make sure you're well-rested the night before. Best of luck!!

Kristy
