Bergen Community College Nursing Program Question

U.S.A. New Jersey

Published

Last Thursday I was at the college for the purpose of collecting my Chemistry grade with some classmates. Apparently, there was a graduation ceremony for RN's going on that night as well, and my friends started talking to one student to ask her about the program. I didn't hear the entire conversation, but one of my cohorts told me the student had stated that ELEVEN people had failed out of NUR-181 alone during her course!

Now, there's always a chance there was some sort of misunderstanding or miscommunication, but does this sound right? For what it's worth, I would think the application process and competitiveness of getting in to the program would assure a strong student population, so it makes me nervous to hear these things. I already received some insight from someone privately, but I was wondering what the public population made of this info.

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply and suggestions guys..apparently i thought i would be able to get by without a textbook but now it seems unlikely.

RP30 - if you scroll back a couple 50 - 100 posts you'll see ppl with less than 88% got in. As you must have realized following your post that a number of factors come into play and from what i have heard residency is a major one. I was just commenting on the 90%+ score not being so special anymore cuz i would have thought that would have been a sure thing to be confident about - just curious...what is the average hesi score being reported for the current test takers? - Cheers.

Zorro- Hey, I definitely get the impression other factors matter too, I'm still worried :( Actually, I took the test last week, I think I was one of the first. I've been checking the website & the average was 87 the day I took it & it still is today. So I'm thinking only a few people took it (I was the only one there that day out of a group of 20 people who was taking the Hesi for BCC). I'll keep an eye out for the average but the last day to test is November 15th so there'll be plenty more scores for sure.... So are you in the day program now?

No, i am not in the program yet, i have applied for the 2012 evening however depending on my work situation i might have to reconsider and i hope it does not come down to that.

Are you planning to take any courses from kean university to pursue a bachelors? have you looked into that? Do you know if students can take classes in the first semester?

I don't think you can take the Kean classes till you get the RN..here is some very helpful info regarding the BSN http://www.bergen.edu/Documents/nursing/pdf/KEAN%20BSN%20PROGRAM%20BOOKLET%20FALL%202011.pdf

I'll definitely pursue the BSN, not sure exactly what route yet, but Kean sounds promising for sure.... So did you take the Hesi yet? The website says the average is still 87.

Yes i did take the HESI and I got a 91. - hopefully gets me though.

Considering you did a lot better than me... I hope so too! :/

RP30,

I have a quick question. How do you check to see what's the current average on the HESI on Bergen's site? I saw some posts where you posted the average. Thanks and best of luck!

Nancy, it's not through Bergen... It's through the testing company. You can't get on unless you've taken the test & have a username/password with them...
