Bergen Community College, sending out letters declining acceptance ?

U.S.A. New Jersey

Published

I received my letter today saying that there were many that applied for the program and that they are unable to extend a letter of acceptance.

The thing with this is that I didn't take the entrance exam. GPA is 3.4 (min is 2.5), and I received

A&P I = A

A&P II = B+

Psyc Dev and GEn = A in both

Chem = currently taking ....can apply while taking.

Sociology = B+

The deadline for the application was October 1st. I sent early September after completing my last prerequisite for the program over the summer.

Just wondering if anyone else received a letter. I was told by the former head of the dept and my advisor to first submit an application to the school and indicate General Studies as a major. This way I can have my Transcript sent from the school i received my bachelors and they can evaluate which classes will be accepted as credit.

Then I am to finish all the prerequs and submit a change of major form...which was the form sent early September.

After doing this I was to wait for a package where I was to be given a date to take the entrance exam.

Instead I get a letter saying no deal.........taking off work on Monday to see what is going on.

Any suggestions or comments appreciated.

from the school's website:

minimum entrance requirements for health care programs

  • all candidates for admission to the nursing and dental hygiene programs are required to take a national standardized entrance examination. there is a $15 fee.

  • students seeking admission to nursing (day), dental hygiene or diagnostic medical sonography must submit complete applications by march 1 for fall admission. nursing (evening) applications are due by october 1 for spring (january) admission. these deadlines may be extended, if classroom space permits.

if you did not take the entrance exam, therefore missed vital part of application package.

please meet with their advisor to review all requirements beyond what is posted on website.

It is possible they meant you were not invited to test. The test has not been administered yet. Not all who apply get invited to test.

Don't give up - if you can attend school in the daytime, then reapply for the day program in January.

Thanks for the replies.......just a little ticked off here because completing the prerequs took a little time to complete.....I did everything as told......and to receive the letter after having gone thru all this is a little troublesome for me. If this is not remedied..I have to wait another year......I am trying to apply to another program, but BCC is my first choice and easier to commute to.

NRSKaren,

I did not take the entrance exam, nor pay the $15, because I am to wait until the Prerequs are finished and then submit an application for entrance as per Dr Baxter and Elsa who receives the application and is responsible for the paper work involved in the Nursing admissions process in the admissions office. Or like I did...a change of major request as per Prof Finney (Prof and Advisor).

RNedit,

I was told that if one meets the minimum requirement...ie, GPA and Prerqus......that a date for the entrance exam would be given....but only after meeting the minimum required. Prerequs courses must be passed with a 2.0....WRT requirements were transferred over from my four year school.

I do not see where I went wrong nor does the letter indicate anything but it being competitive to get in and that I will not be accepted.

My application was not complete, because of the exam not being taken.....which again....I am to wait for a date from them.

Taking Monday off to see if I can speak with someone at school...including my advisor, but even she is a little confused and was expecting that I get a date......I called her yesterday after receiving the letter.

*** Evening Nursing applicants cannot be accepted until general corequisites (8 courses) have been completed. These courses are: BIO109, BIO209, WRT101, WRT201, PSY101, PSY106, SOC101, and WEX101.

Good luck Monday. Let us know what happens.
