Relocating to Las Vegas from ca

U.S.A. Nevada

Published

Hi everyone. My husband just got hired in summerlin and centennial hospital Las Vegas NV. He doesn't know which one he would choose coz the offer is exactly the same. Is it ok to work on this hospitals. He would be in med surg/tele.The manager said to him that the ratio is 6:1. I read some reviews about nurses working in Las Vegas is horrible, awful,... Are this true???

I have never worked for either company, although I have been a Las Vegas resident for over 25 years so I can give you some advice. The area that Summerlin Hospital is in is older (built up in late 80's/early 90's) and much more established. The Centennial area is newer (built during housing boom of 2004-2008 ) and was hit hard by the recession so from what I have heard, the census is really low at times. Centennial is also at the end of town whereas Summerlin is a bit more central so people have to drive further to get to Centennial compared to Summerlin. So the only advice that I can offer is that Summerlin is generally busy and Centennial is hit or miss simply due to the neighborhoods. So I would imagine that he might get called off due to low census at Centennial. I can't tell you about the work itself because I'm still a student but most of the nurses that I have worked with have been happy.

Thanks christina731 for your advice. My husband accepted the job in summerlin hospital... Thanks again!

I've not worked in either of those...but I've worked in other hospitals in the VHS group. I can tell you one thing- the ratio is rarely 6:1.

Wish I would've seen this earlier! I work at centennial and census hasn't been low in ages. I've been put on standby once in six months. I love this area because I live over here too. I love what I do and for the most part I wouldn't leave anytime soon.

Oh and we are USUALLY 6:1
