New Grad BSN RN, Any jobs out there??

  1. 0 I recently graduated with a BSN, passed my NCLEX, and got licensed. I guess you can say that I am pretty discouraged by the looks of the job market. I've had NO LUCK AT ALL! Anybody have any tips or advice??? Know of any jobs in Las Vegas/Henderson area???

Have you tried the new grad programs at Sunrise and St Rose? I have heard Nathan Adelson hospice is hiring. My friend just got a job with Health South sub acute care and she's a new grad. It's a tough market right now in lots of places, unfortunately

    Hi SunshienDaisy,
I've looked into new grad programs at both places, but I haven't found info on either. I've also tried applying at HealthSouth with no luck of a call back. I tried to call them, but no response. I will look into Nathan Adielson. Thank you for your response!

I've applied for many jobs within the Valley health system. Unfortunately, all my app statuses say "no longer being considered"

    Thank you for your response.

That really doesn't mean anything. Almost everybody's application will say that.

Really? What should I do? I have been calling the recruiter at all the places I've been applying, but no luck with a response.

Start applying at Starbucks, or move to an area that is hiring new grad RNs. Please search the board for the seemingly MILLIONS of posts about new grads looking for jobs.

So what was the point of your comment? I wanted to create a topic that was specific to NEVADA, as all of the other topics related to new grads weren't recent. Unfortunately, all of us nurses have to start SOMEWHERE! I wasn't fortunate enough to be born earlier to graduate nursing school 7 years ago when the job market was still good.

Please keep your negativity to yourself. I come on this website for advice and to read about others' experiences, not to read comments from someone telling me to apply at Starbucks.

Hello 808hi I would suggest joiNing the new grad rn california fb page for support. Especially since new grads face much ignorance and useless advice as evidenced above. There are some good resources for interviews, cover letters etc., and it is nice to hear success stories now and again. I am applying to nv hospitals and have had one interview there thus far. I would suggest being ready to take behavioral exams by researching strategies. Also I think other healthcare experience like certifications or cna job for example may help. I visited many hospitals hr depts. For info. Best of luck to you and all of us new grads out there. There are many of us struggling nationwide.

Tell me where in my comment suggesting you seek non-nursing employment, or search the rest of this board for more ideas, is "negativity." What's "negative" about suggesting you find work in another field while you job hunt, or search AN for posts similar to yours? Tell me how that is bad. You asked "what should I do?" And I answered that very question with actual ideas that are helpful. Because it wasn't exactly what you wanted to hear, you declare it "negative" and tell me to keep it to myself?

You will quickly find out that bitterness is a quality shared by the majority of people in this field. Enjoy your job hunt. I'm sure it will be fun.

I suggest contacting your preceptors, employed classmates and former instructors that you think may be able to help you at least get a brief introduction to hiring managers.
