Maybe relocating to Nebraska/ Clarkson College

I can't tell you what the program is like yet. I start in the spring of 2012. However, I haven't heard anything bad about their program. They are affiliated with the Nebraska Medical Center (top notch facility). The campus is small, but nice. It's right next to the Nebraska Medical Center and the affiliated buildings. Living in Omaha is good living! Decent job market (NE only has a 4% unemployment rate, I believe). It's cheap to live here. There are good schools and hospitals, and there are nice places to go downtown. There are lots of family-friendly things to do. There's a children's museum, as well as an art museum. There is also the Durham museum, which has trains in it. Kids love it, too. The Old Market is really nice. Downtown is pretty much the place to be for fun at night, and for families. Each summer, there is Jazz on the Green, and Shakespeare on the Green. There is also a free concert every year at Memorial Park, which is fun! Last year, we had Cheap Trick and .39 Special. Before that, Kansas came and played. That was a blast. Memorial Park is really nice, and there are plenty of nice parks downtown.

Oh thanks! I'm waiting to hear back in January if I got in or not. I'm excited though I'd love to live somewhere different.

I agree with everything Me-er-than me said. Omaha is a great place to live. Has made various top city lists lately. It is a very friendly city with lots to do but not too big. Don't know where you live in California but we really don't have bad traffic here. Even during rush hour it only takes a few extra minutes. No one commutes an hour in Omaha (if they live in the city. Some live in outlying towns and may travel that long.). I drive a lot in my job and only drive for 30 minutes if I am going from a suburb to the complete other side of the city. Most of my trips around town are 15-20 minutes.

The weather will be different from California for sure. We have four distinct seasons which I love. During the summer, we usually have a couple weeks of very hot and humid weather (heat index over 100). The rest of the summer is hot but not unbearable - upper 80's and 90's many days in July and August. The winter will probably seem cold to you. Many years there are only a couple weeks of REALLY cold weather (wind chill below 0) usually in December, January and/or February. Some years we get a lot of snow, other years we don't get much. If you live in the dorm, you won't have to worry too much - it is on campus so travel won't be a problem. There would also be affordable apartments close to the school. (Check the area before renting. There are many safe areas near the school but also some not so great ones within a few miles. Just depends which way you go. Omaha's crime rate is not bad but there are a few areas where shootings occur regularly.) There are parks where you could sled and several ice skating rinks - one at University of Nebraska Medical Center which is right next door to Clarkson (and they are affiliated with Clarkson as well).

No, I'm from Kansas. I moved here 3 years ago when I got married. My husband has lived here for 15 years, and he grew up in California before that.

I live in codon and our summers are hot! Around 100-112 some days. It's still pretty hot now and its the end of October!!! The traffic is pretty horrific I would love to live somewhere where I either don't have to drive or its short. I'm hoping to live on campus. I'll be moving alone so I hope to make friends.
