What are nursing boards like? Money, time etc

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hey all, just wondering what exams need to be passed in order to work as a RN? I'm a prospective nursing student just trying to get an idea of what to expect.

I see a lot of talk about the NCLEX....is that the only one? Is that a national or a regional exam? Are there state boards that must be passed as well before you can earn a license? Are there any clinical exams or just written exams?

How much does the NCLEX cost to take and how many times per year is it offered? Is it a multiple choice test and approx. how many questions? Is there a maximum amount of times that the test can be re-taken if one fails it?

Thanks in advance for your help!;)

Only exam is NCLEX although whilst a student I am sure you will have plenty of exams :)

Price depends on state and because it is computerised (CAT) can be take 6 days a week almost 52 weeks a year, will be certain days when the testing centers are closed

Again depending on state depends whether they require a refresher course if you fail X amount of times. Questions for RN will be anything from 75 to 265 and differs from person to person and pass rate also differs, because you get 75 or 265 questions does not mean pass or fail. All information regarding NCLEX can be found here https://www.ncsbn.org/index.htm
