?? I start LPN in May and want to know if anyone has actually prepared and read NCLEX PN books before even starting school? I'm going to order some and if anyone out there has some good tips on what books please let me know thank you

Maybe somebody else will respond but I asked a similar question and it was pointed out that it would probably be overwhelming since I wasn't in school yet

Learning the method of breaking down the questions is always helpful..on the other hand without having had the content it might be frustrating.. I would take the time to relax, get all your dr checkups out of the way, see your dentist, etc.. This may sound over the top but you will find that once your in the program you will be completely focused on school. And there are only so many hours in a day to get everything done!

If you are eager to get started read up on anatomy and medical terminology. Do some practice questions on the body systems.. Find out where your weak areas are so that you are ahead of the game once you dive in this May.

I practiced nclex questions for months before I started school.. Did it help? Only so much.. At some point you'll really start to connect the dots..for me it was medsurg and seeing the disease process of what we were studying in clinical first hand.

Good luck!

Humm I think it will be more overwhelming if we're not prepared and not familiar with the formula trying to get it and understand it while in school. Either way Im a order Saunders NCLEX PN Examination book along with Kaplan NCLEX PN 2015-2016 and NCLEX PN Flash cards. I'm a start here and read it all. Lol I start till May of next year so I have a lot of time on my hands. I graduated CMA so I'm a brush up on Medical terminology get my old flash cards.. I was also thinking about buying pharmacology note cards or flash cards and making some of my own as well. Since I know medication in CMA school was one of my struggles I for sure em going to get started on that. We didn't go into deep depth on medication. Do you have any books in mind?

@Cream and Sugar LPN that's came to mind as well to study A&P and brush up on medical terminology along with Medications and NCLEX books.. I'm sure the NCLEX books have explanations on the the answers ? I think that's all I need and if I have further questions I will turn to google or the all nurses app. What do you think about these books?

Specializes in Pediatric Oncology, Pediatric Neurology.

Take this time to relax and make sure your other life priorities are in order because they will be at the end of your list once you start nursing school- and sleep is the first one to go. There's no way to prepare, to be honest- other than making sure your head is on straight because it's a long ride that never ends, even after you graduate. So hold on tight!

Best of luck!!
