Passing NCLEX-RN

Hi all,

I wanted to take a moment to try and help others who may be having trouble passing the NCLEX. First off, from my experience, I do not believe that the tests in nursing school helped prepare me for the NCLEX. The format was completely different. However, don't let that dissuade you because you can pass the NCLEX.

Anyway, I wanted to share my story in the hopes that it might help someone else out. I used the following sources: NCSBN Review, Kaplan NCLEX-RN Premier 2017, Lippincott Q&A Review for NCLEX-RN 12ed, Prioritization, Delegation, and Assignment 3ed. I mainly used NCSBN for content review and the other material for practicing questions. (NCSBN has some practice questions as well) I cannot stress enough, do not overwhelm yourself by covering loads and loads of material because the NCLEX-RN will ask you questions about items you've never heard of before. Focus on the weak areas that give you trouble.

As for the test itself, don't be alarmed if you get more than 75 questions. Take your time accordingly and there's nothing wrong with sitting for the whole six hours. I would stress that if your time is close to running out, don't just rapidly answer questions. For example, let's say you reach 135 questions or more and your time is running out. The test will be scored on your last 60 questions. If you stay above the line for the last 60 questions, you pass. If you dip below the line once during the last 60 questions, you fail. Now, it is important to point out that all answers do not have to be correct. However, the more questions that are answered incorrectly runs a risk of dropping you below the line. So, this is why I say, if your time is running out, don't panic and rapidly answer questions because that could impact whether you pass or not.
