Passed Nclex 2017, 1st try, used kaplan and pvt worked!!!

Students NCLEX

So while I was studying for the NCLEX I stalked this website a lot and got lots of advice on the Nclex. so I decided to share what I did since I also passed.

I graduated from a program in South Carolina on May 10 2017. My school uses Kaplan and incorporates it in our program. After graduation we had a mandatory Kaplan Nclex review where a representative of the company comes and teaches us the decision tree for 4 days straight. I thought it was very helpful...but hard.

i got my ATT June 12 and scheduled my test for the 22 of June. I did about 75 qbanks everyday and would alternate, some days I would do trainers and other days the sample tests. I rarely watched the content videos, only to brush up on topics. These were my scores for the Kaplan tests:

qt1: 58.7

qt2: 58.7

qt3: 46

qt4: 59

qt5: 62

qt6: 61 (I was so happy to finally meet a benchmark)

qt7: 57 (crushed my spirit, plus this test was so long I dosed off)

readiness: 71 (boosted my confidence)

sample test 1: 66

sample test 2: 54

sample test 3: 93

sample test 4: 30 (This alternative test will humble anyone lol)

and I did all the Qbanks and had an average score of just a 53. Yeah i sucked at these. But my school had us doing Qbanks once a week before we learned the decision tree and I did the rest after the Kaplan review and my scores improved, I started making high 50s and mid 60s. My highest was a 66. But after I finished, I did most of the incorrect ones over.

i made sure I remediated on everything and took notes, and if I didn't understand something, I would watch the content video. I barely spend anything on content. I did questions everyday 75-266 a day. I took a break every sundays and would take breaks during my studies.

The day before the test I pampered myself. Hair done makeup done and went shopping lol. Then came home and watched Netflix, before bed I did review my note cards of labs, vaccines, and different precautions for infection control.

on test day I got there an hour early and they let me sit in. I was nervous but I was so ready to get this over with. The test was a LOT easier than Kaplan.i pretty much knew every topic on the test. I had 20 sata and 1 math. I honestly was shocked my test cut off at 75. I thought I would be one of the ones that got to 265. When I got to 75, I begged the screen to not shut off lol, because I wasn't 100% confident in my answer choices.

an hour after the test I tried the pvt and got the good pop up, and then tried it again before bed and kept getting it and felt so much better, but of course I knew the nclex gets graded twice, so I did the pvt after 24hrs. To do the pvt, I put in my correct card info with a lot of money, yes I was willing to risk $200 to ease my mind, then I clicked submit and it would not take my money, so I knew it was the good pop up.

this money I worked up and paid for the quicker results and it said passed and I jumped up and started dancing. I am sooooo Happy to get this over with. It was a long and difficult journey.

my advice to everyone else is to study, do questions and review, also don't doubt yourself.

Ah Congratulationssss :) SO happy for you!!!!! I'm using Kaplan too and I just completed all the Qbank questions. :) I have to take trainers 5-7 now + the readiness test and just go over whatever I got wrong from the qbanks! I'm very nervous lol. My exam is July 5th. I also found LaCharity PDA to be really helpful so fingers crossed I pass the first time :/

Thank you for sharing your experience!!

Thank you, don't be nervous, if you do the your questions everyday and remediate and take notes, you will be fine. I also find that study guide on here helpful btw.

Congrats!!!!!

First of all, congraz!!!! It's such an accomplishment!!!

Also wanted to add for those who also did pvt. I did pvt by following youtube video, entered correct credit card information, and got a bad pop-up. I was really depressed until this morning when I did the 48 hour quick result, and found out that I actually passed. So the pvt isn't always accurate it seems. After being depressed, thinking that I failed, I recommend people not to do the pvt, just in case you get a bad pop-up like I did.
