Pass NCLEX-RN 2nd Time (76Q)... and Uworld

Nursing Students NCLEX

Hi all,

I took my NCLEX-RN on Sept. 22, 2015 and I have read a lot of encouraging posts after I failed my nclex for the first time. So I want to post my story on how I passed the 2nd time.

First time taking the nclex I had 265 Q and took 5 hours. I took a month and read the Saunder's book from cover to cover and took notes on each chapter. This is a great book for general content review and the practice questions were only content base. So don't solely study using this book. I also used Kaplan and did all the question trainers. I don't remember the exact scores. But for QT7 I got 55% and it should have been at least in the 60's before I took the exam. But honestly, I felt that Kaplan didn't really work for me.

Second time taking the test: I used UWORLD! I cannot stress to people if kaplan does not work for you, try UWORLD. There is a free one week trial and the rationales are amazing!!! I mainly used this site to study for my second exam. I did around 75 questions a day and spent 4-6 hours review the rationales. Trust me, read each rationale for each question (even right/wrong) and also research more about the topic if you are unfamiliar with it. Like for cholecystectomy I YouTube how it's done and understood the procedure and it helped me understand more about the nursing aspect (like positioning, precautions, etc.) I typed out notes on questions I didn't understand and it helps me retain the information. For UWORLD my overall average was 58%. It also has a lot of SATA which was great!

I also borrowed (don't suggest you buy if you are on a budget ) the NCLEX - RN 2015-2016 Kaplan book and did the practice test a few days before my exam and got 74%. I think this test was fairly easy, given that I got such a high score. Link is below.

Overall, I used UWORLD, did a practice test, and read the 35 page study guide to study for the second time. I passed w/ 76 questions in 1.5 hrs. You can all pass the NCLEX! Make sure you have a schedule and remember to relax and have fun!

I am taking the NCLEX in a few days and I am sooo nervous... Like about to puke myself nervous:scrying:. I got Hurst as a main review and a Kaplan book on the side. I also have the NCLEX Mastery App and just found out about UWorld a couple days ago. I was wondering if my average is enough to pass. I have only taken 3, 75-question quizzes on UWorld, and got an average of 52%. Do you think thats alright???

I am kinda losing hope, reading some NCLEX failure stories. So scared to be one. :( Advice please????

Hey AlyCat21,

Try to relax and do something you like the day before your exam because being nervous won't help you on the test. I haven't used HURST review so I'm not too sure about their program. But I've read good reviews on it.

I think as long as you have a solid foundation on your content, you will do fine! Scores don't really mean that much because you want to understand the rationales more.

Don't lose hope because you need confidence to pass this test! Believe in yourself and say you got this! Don't read too many failure stories, b/c that will only freak you out!

Relax, study a little, eat, play and remember to believe in yourself! You can pass the NCLEX like I did! Let me know how it goes!

Hey happpyy,

So i took nclex yesterday, i had 265q and it took me 5hours. Just like you did the first time. I walked out of the test center knowing i failed miserably. I just knew, i had a gut feeling.

Most of the stuff that was on the exam, honestly was not on hurst, which SUCKS! Majorly! And if it was in hurst, hurst only touched based on it, no detailed explanations. Some of the stuff i havent heard off. Maybe its cuz im an international student, and content of some of the nursing stuff wasnt thought to us. Either way, im not blaming my failure on anything else but me. Maybe i just didnt study enough, even though I pretty much locked my self in my room studying for over a month... Probably wasnt enough.

Uworld was amazing at delivering practice questions tho. So i will continue to use it since i wasnt able to utilize all of their questions.

But any words of wisdom or suggestions to make it happen the second time?

Thank you!

Hey AlyCat21,

Sorry to hear about this. Just wait for your result, there's a chance that you probably passed! I know it's hard to have a positive mindset right now, but don't lose hope.

I think NCLEX test us on not only content, but also test taking strategies. My recommendation is just do as many practice questions as you can to master the test taking skills and REALLY understand the rationale. If you're not strong on that topic look up more information on it. Youtube is really helpful to me because I'm more of a visual learner. Also, I typed out key points I didn't understand and read it over.

Good luck and let me know how it goes !

does anyone has uworld rn nclex for free ? i tried the free trial but now its expiring and i cant spend 59 for a month . im tight with money

I passed my nclex with less than 80 questions last week. I was taking virtual ATI with a predictor of 94% chance of passing but did not get the green light because I still needed to improvement in 2 areas where I was lower than 65% but higher than 63% - Since i was also doing UWORLD I did my remediation and took my boards on Jan 8th - Just some hints for the nclex, even though it's different for everyone, know your infection control from donning PPE to what is airborne vs droplet. Standard and contact precautions, Also know the concepts of mental health, and priority... who to see first - delegation.

The key is to understand the concepts, do not try to memorize, will not serve you.

Good luck to all of you

Hi, my exam is next month. I work 4 to 5 days a week and on those days I work I only study at most 2 hours. On the weekends I study more. I also graduated dec. 2014 but never took the exam due to family problems, distractions and test anxiety. So you can see I have already forgotten a lot of information. I tried Saunders but it's too overwhelming for me to read the whole book. So, I was so happy when i found out about uworld. I love it and I learned so much using it. But for some reason I still don't feel prepared to take the test. I have a really hard time organizing my notes and have difficulty remembering some details (eg. Medications). I was wondering what is the best and efficient way of studying for the nclex. Should I take notes from uworld, read a review book while doing questions, or don't take notes at all (since i have little time to study) I have until Feb. 8. Thank you I appreciate all the feedbacks. And congrats to those who passed! 😊

I'm preparing my rn exam this march and currently using uworld and I like it, but I think I'm still lack in content been out in school for 5 yrs now and this will be my 3rd time taking exam for rn any help or advice would be appreciated thanks

Hello everyone, I have to take my nclex rn and I have failed it before. I am also using UWORLD but my performance score is showing as 57% my exam is in three weeks and I am super freaked out :( .... I am almost done with 1,760 questions that's on the UWORLD bank and planning on going back to questions and rereading the rationales that I got wrong. Any suggestions???? on whatelse to do to raise my score....

I have completed all the UWORLD questions if you go to the forum the moderator says that it's with great confidence that you should get more than 60% on the questions but as their disclaimer it's not a guarantee
