NG ?

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I went and read a forum thread https://allnurses.com/general-nursing-discussion/ng-tube-question-118840.html about NG tubes because l didn't completely understand them. I answered this question and still got it wrong can someone explain. Am l to rationalize for NCLEX reasons that if someone has a NG tube meds are always given that way. Anywho this is the ?

An adult client with a NG tube has an order for tylenol 650mg PRN for a temp >101. The nurse should take which of the following actions when administering the med?

1. The tab should be swallowed carefully with sips of water

2. The med should be withheld until NG is removed.

3. Placement of the NG should be checked prior to giving the med.

4. Powdered med should be used and mixed with water to form a solution.

1. client is NPO so nothing should be admin oral

2 med should not be withheld

Answer: 3 Correct-- liquid tyleonol may be administered via ng after the tube placement has been checked tube placement should be checked before anything is instilled.

4 tylenol does not come powdered.

If the patient has an NG tube I think you always have to check the placement of the tube before giving a feeding, meds, etc. You want to assess before you implement in this question. All the other options are implementing. That's my rationalization, I hope it helps a bit.
