Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hey guys, how long is standard preparation before taking the NCLEX exam?

Depends on you. How well prepared your school ACTUALLY made you, how long it takes you study things normally, resources available to you, stuff like that.

I graduated and took a week off from all school related stuff and then started to study. I studied for probably 2 good weeks (6ish hours a day) before I took my NCLEX. I used ATI and Uworld. Mostly Uworld though. It is a wonderful tool to help you study as long as you read the rationales. It costs ~$70 for 30 days access and it has around 2000 questions to go through.

I just took my NCLEX today so I can't tell if you I passed or not, but it turned off at 75 and the PVT is saying I passed.

I took the test as soon as I got my att, but in NJ, this takes a while. It was about a month before I could get my att. As soon as I got it, I scheduled my test in the next few days. I passed in 75, but I was a nervous wreck. I rushed because I was flat broke and I needed a job ASAP. My husband was very ill and had to go on temporary disability. It was a very stressful time. If I hadn't felt so much pressure, I may have given myself a little more time, but not a lot. If you were doing well on whatever standardized tests you did in nursing school (HESI, ATI, etc) don't wait. If you didn't do well on those, then give yourself some time to get up to speed. Take some courses, or whatever you need to do. A friend of mine failed NCLEX on the first try and it was a serious hit to her confidence. She still hasn't taken the test again, 6 months later, and is getting more and more behind the 8 ball with her confidence and ability.

You should have a good idea about where you stand. Choose accordingly.
