Nursing Students NCLEX

Hello all,

Well I just graduated from nursing school and will be taking the NCLEX-LVN shortly. Some of my classmates are looking to take a 3 day NCLEX review session offered by California School of Health Sciences (CSHS); has anyone taken this review course? If so, would you mind sharing your thoughts or opinions on it? I am on the fence and thought maybe someone here has heard of them or have taken the course. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Hi, I actually took this class because I thought I would rather pay $350 versus $500 for a RN NCLEX Review course. I should have trusted my instincts when I went on their website and saw reviews by people who took the class posted over and over. It seemed kind of strange to me. The fact was they were trying to make it seem like a lot of people really liked the class but were actually the same comments repeated.

Ok, to get on with this message, I really don't recommend this class. The class I was in had about 20 students and held at a Motel 8 conference room. I felt I wasted $350 for a brief 3 day class that provided cheap material: a slim binded notebook that mainly (90%) consisted of questions of the different areas of studies. I basically spent most of my time trying to take notes that were on the powerpoint versus paying attention to the questions. I felt like I was all over the place. I was kind of upset that they were so cheap that they could not include the lecture notes with the packet. Also, the lecturer had a strong accent and I couldn't tell the difference between hypo and hyper and calcemia and kalemia because they sounded the same when he pronounced them. The lecturer was Southeast Indian (no offense here) and most of the class were made up of Indian students so maybe they didn't have trouble like I did understanding the lecturer.

I know I am being brutally honest and direct and some of you guys might not like it. But I did pay $350 and that is a lot of money for someone who doesn't have a job. I felt that this was not a well coordinated 3-day course and also the number that they offer at the website had very rude people working there. They are not efficient and reliable. I had to call twice to get my online class and email them and the funny thing was their email was full so I got a returned email saying their mailbox was full and my email cannot be delivered. I paid for this class and I want my online review and I wanted my money's worth.

Overall, I do not recommend taking this class offered by CSHS- California School of Health Sciences. If you take them, it is because you have the money to waste. You really might as well study on your own. I really hope they will work towards and put in the effort to improving this 3-day class of theirs because this is people's hard earn money they are collecting. I am pretty disappointed and if you pass the NCLEX, it is from you knowing your material and not really from this class. I wished someone had spoken up about this 3-day course so I wouldn't have made the mistake of taking it.

Sorry if I sound horrible but money doesn't come easy from an unemployed student who really just want to pass the NCLEX. Thanks for reading and goodluck on the NCLEX. Oh, and lastly, the class was for both RN and LVN??? I totally did not get that. I thought it was a class for the RN Review but they clumped the RNs and LVNs class together?!!?? Total disbelief and disappointment!

While there is nothing inherently wrong with combining RN and LVN students together for NCLEX review, if you would do some background research on the founder of this institution, you would probably be inclined to avoid the course. If you want a good NCLEX review, go with Kaplan or Hurst. Or better, yet, just get a review book, Saunders Comprehensive Reivew is recommended, and do the work yourself. Most people pass without a review course.

Noted the OP is two years old, hope the OP has been successful with NCLEX by now and is working.
