While I was studying I made a study schedule. I would study the content of a 3-4 topics a day and the next day I would study the meds that pertained to those topics and then do 50 questions on each topic. I used the HURST for content and NCLEX 4000 DVD for questions since you can choose the topic. Also 3 weeks prior to taking the NCLEX I did about 300 Kaplan questions. For me practicing questions I think helped more than content because I was asked questions that I was not studying about (lice, scabies, lime's disease) so having the question answering skills really helped! BTW I passed my first time and I got all 265 questions and it took me 5.5 hrs. Good luck!

I hope I could be of some help. I took the Nclex Monday of this week... this was my first time taking the test. I took several prep courses such as the anderson review, kaplan, and NCBSN... and found the cheapest the best.

Kaplan was a waste of time- a week class is too fast, and they take way too much time trying to explain their "kaplan method" of answering questions. The only positive I can give is the course book has some good tables. If you could buy a used course book, I would suggest buying that instead of the whole entire course.

I would highly recommend NCBSN's class. they have content review, and test questions...I prefered practicing with questions the actual test takers make. PLUS they have organized their info wayyy better than kaplan. One negative- I don't feel allll the sections covered enough important info (like the OB section) and the med section was a lil too much for my brain lol. I used NCBSN with the Saunders book and kaplan tables (Particularly the medication tables). Do not bother answering Saunders questions- they are just way too easy. Go over the common nursing topics on NCBSN using Saunders & Kaplan book to add in additional gaps. I really love my saunders book! Do the test questions on NCBSN and really read rationales!

Three days before my test I haulted my studying and started just doing questions. I would really suggest doing that because it gets you into the testing mode. Do not focus on how many questions you are getting wrong. read rationales and you will remember why you made that mistake. I jotted down all info that i got wrong and studied it the way to the test center.... If i could pass my 1st time taking the test after taking a 4 year break after graduating nursing school, you certainly can pass. Sign up to NCBSN, get a saunders book, make solid review notes, and read all testing q rationals and I'm sure you will be fine. BTW i passed at 124 questions.
