Meds for nclex

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hi all, not sure if I am posting in the right section but I had my pinning last week and wanted to know if anyone can give advice on what meds I should know or lab values for the nclex. I am nervous but any help is really appreciated

Specializes in L&D, infusion, urology.

I would study some of the big ones like digoxin, lithium, dilaudid, morphine, BP meds, heparin, and the like. You cannot possibly learn them all, but know the major side effects and contraindications, therapeutic levels, reversal drugs, etc. Know the classes of drugs and how to spot them.

Know the major labs- CBC, CMP, PT, PTT, etc.

Specializes in Cardiac, ER, Pediatrics, Corrections.

Potassium, Calcium, Sodium etc. Better brush up on those. Brush up on imbalances. Infant vitals. Adult vitals. Peds vitals. Focus on studying classes of meds and their side effects and it makes it easier. Just know the big side effects such as dig toxicity or EPS. NCLEX is gonna pull stuff from everywhere! It will be random. I had about 12 med questions and a few I never heard of! I still passed but man I never wanna do it again!
