International Nurse - Can Anyone Help??

Hi there, I'm an RN in Scotland and have taken NCLEX twice (through Vermont) and failed. The first time was a nightmare in London, with a bomb scare on the tube, getting there late and I didn't study, - very naively - thinking (I've been qualified for just over 1.5yrs) I would pass it as I wasn't that long out of University!! How wrong was I. O.K. so I got a hefty kick up the backside when I failed on 75q's. I just did (and failed) my second attempt, which I took whilst on vacation in N.H, I did the exam in Burlington, Vermont. They made me feel so relaxed and I did study (although not as much as I should have - obviously! - its no excuse really but I have two under 3yr olds and working full time (37.5hrs/week), so I kept putting things off till the last minute. Anyway to the point, I have a couple of questions I'm hoping you kind folks could help me out with:-

  1. Is it 3 strikes and your out?? I have been told that I also have to do a review/refresher course before I do my third attempt; and
  2. Can anyone recommend a good (online) course to do that will get me through this as they are expensive and obviously I've already outlayed a substantial amount of money.

I know it doesn't say much that I've failed twice and definitely don't want to fail it a third time. If I was to fail again, I don't think I would do it again. I think I would have to resign myself to the fact that I would just have to have vacations in the U.S. every year . Please can anyone help?

You will have to contact Vermont BON and find out from them what their policy is about retakes.

If you want to send me your e-mail address via pm, do not post it here, I will be happy to sned you a copy of my program. You will need only the Saunders' Comprehenisve Review for the NCLEX-RN, that is it.

You really do not need an on-line program, if you just follow it. You will need to allow yourself about two hours on a daily basis to prepare.
