Feuer Nursing Review

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I just wanted to give a review and my opinion about Feuer Nursing Review. If anyone is planning on taking this review to pass the NCLEX, DEFINITELY TAKE IT! It helped me pass the 2nd time and gave me much more confidence.

My nursing program provided the students with a Kaplan Review and an optional Hurst Review as well. I took both reviews before my boards and it did help me to some extent. Kaplan gave you the strategies of ABCs, stable vs unstable, expected vs unexpected, which were useful and the only strategies I really used on my exam. I never used Maslow's hierarchy of needs. Kaplan, in my opinion, was just a review of questions, not so much content. Hurst gave me the content aspect, but it was just not enough content.

Feuer really went into depth starting with med surg, OB, peds, pharm, and psych. I loved reading the packets of information and I made sure I really understood what was I reading. I made sure to read each packet at least 3 times. I know people say "do at least 150 questions a day" maybe even more, but I tried aiming for 75-100 a day and did mostly content. I would review the questions I would do again when I had time and I made sure to read the rationale, even if my answer was correct. The Feuer professors for each day were great and really helped break down the content to your understanding. They were always open to questions and clarifying things that were unclear.

My first exam experience was all nerves, rushing, and not reading properly. This time I took my time, 5 hours and 50 minutes, and I reached 265. I was glad I had more content knowledge my second time taking the exam, and I was not stuck there sitting in front of the screen guessing an answer that would best fit the question. I think knowing your content is very important to NCLEX and strategy, in my opinion, is less of an importance than content.

But if anyone is planning on taking Feuer (I took the live review in the city), please do it and don't hesitate! It is a great live review in which you are engaged in the lecture, you are answering questions as a class, and you meet people who are in the same situation as you and they become your "team" of nurses. I also did LaCharity at the time and before the review, I read the Saunders book and did the questions.

I will forever keep all my resources from this review because it was VERY helpful and was key to me passing my boards.
