Failed NCLEX-RN Twice... Need help please!

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hello everyone. I graduated in May 2013 and I've taken my NCLEX-RN twice now, first time in October 2013 and the second time last month, January 2014. I've failed both times, the first time in 75 questions, the second time in 87. I took Kaplan's review (twice) and I really thought it was quite helpful and thought I learned some great strategies, but I am still unlicensed.

A lot of my peers that I graduated with are already working as nurses and I feel like I'm really starting to fall behind. I'm totally demoralized and I am lacking confidence after failing twice. I was so sure I was going to pass the last time.

Anyways I must must MUST pass my third time. I can't afford not to. My issue.... I don't know how. I feel like I'm really weak in content (thus why Kaplan only brought me so far). I'm looking into Hurst, as I've read a lot of positive feedback, as well as coupling it with NCSBN's review on learningext.com.

In truth, I really don't know what to do. I appreciate all well wishes, prayers, advice, feedback, and stories. Thank you!

Hi. Based on your post, if you did 75 and 87 on the tests, it would mean you were hitting low level questions. I would think that you need to concentrate on content and you need to control your anxiety.. Stop looking at where your peers are now. That is not helpful. I would recommend a content based review such as hurst and one that will allow you to absorb content at a reasonable pace such as an online reviewer. Reviewing takes dedication: you need discipline and focus.

Phase 2 would be testing your content through practice tests. The practice tests are useful in working out your critical analysis, not for memorizing. There are many resources for practice tests. Good luck and take care.

To dclcnur Hello,I have the Saunders book but I want to ask you where did you find the CD for the questions,Thank you

Try using Saunders. I used Saunders to review on content.

mrmango..domt lose hope anything happend for a reason this is just a delayed success. just keep being positive... wats ur score im kaplan before u take d exam?

I apologize i may be repeating what everyone else said on here but my advice would be to not study as much content if you think you have the basic knowledge... the nclex is all about how you answer the question. its all about the decision tree. my advice would be to answer questions i did over 3000 questions in about 17 days before my exam and read over lab values.

The Hurst is definitely the way to go for content preparation :)

Hurst really helped me as well, though i did not pass 2 weeks ago, hurst really helped me with content and they make everything very easy to understand. Don't give up hope. You can do it :)
