  1. Hi. Based on your post, if you did 75 and 87 on the tests, it would mean you were hitting low level questions. I would think that you need to concentrate on content and you need to control your anxiety.. Stop looking at where your peers are now. That is not helpful. I would recommend a content based review such as hurst and one that will allow you to absorb content at a reasonable pace such as an online reviewer. Reviewing takes dedication: you need discipline and focus. Phase 2 would be testing your content through practice tests. The practice tests are useful in working out your critical analysis, not for memorizing. There are many resources for practice tests. Good luck and take care.
  2. Your choice depends on what you need to study for. If you are confident about your mastery of content, I would recommend Kaplan for strategy. I would never recommend just doing practice tests if you lack content. You will just end up memorizing and it be any good because NCLEX is analysis, analysis and more analysis . Hurst is good for content but again the choice of getting the online or classroom type depends on the pace you want to learn. I took the online and studied at a reasonable pace...and supplemented with PDA, EXAM CRAM. I started doing the practice tests a month before my tests using the hogan, kaplan book, exam cram. It's easier and really confidence boosting to do the practice tests when you know the content. This confidence will carry over on the big day!
  3. Hurst is awesome ...
  4. Redseven.. I am so happy to read such resolve! WHAT THE MIND CAN CONCEIVE THE MIND CAN ACHIEVE. all you really need is a great strategy for the exam.... Nurse, asses thyself!!!Think back how you were able to be the first among the 300 and you will find your strength. Then nclex will no longer be that impossible test.. It will just be like any other test.. Good luck and God bless you.
  5. Hi 4ivyMN Thanks... I'm from Manila....
  6. I asked the same question when I got the good pop up. After 48 hrs, I did the quick result and it said PASS. took mine 3 days from the time I took the test to post in the BON. And seeing my name posted reduced me to tears... Congrats.. I can tell you without doubt that the good pop up works !!!!
  7. Depends on my then workload. I would watch one hurst video maybe every other day. Then bring the notes of that video to work. Then I would read up on it as a supplement . Hurst wants you to watch their videos in the order they put it And I did just that. if I watched RENAL, I wld read their notes later at work, and read up on renal disorders using Mary Ann Hogan's book. My friend used this system too. She passed after 100 items . I know you can do it! use your energy and patience wisely.. Let those who belittle you motivate you to SUCCESS. you are so blessed. You are employed, you have the chance to be an RN ANYTIME in the very near future...without worries of student loan you need to pay in the future. GOOD LUCK KBAYAN and MERRY CHRISTMAS...
  8. I already took the test dear. More than 2hrs for 110 items. Good pop up. GOT PASS status 48 hrs after via quick result and 3-4 days after test officially posted on the BON. Believe me.. Don't make it harder than it really is. Nclex is only hard when you don't prepare the right way. Since you are working, you must study at a good pace... Be kind to yourself . Better to study at a good pace where your brain absorbs and RETAINS it well than to cram so much that it causes confusion and some kind of resistance to learning. Been there, done that and we must learn from our mistakes to arrive at the result we want. You can do the sample video of hurst and decide for yourself. Then you can tell those co workers who belittle you..." Who's the RN now " ?!!!!!!
  9. I would advise you to check the validity period of your ATT. it varies for different states. Formulate your study plan, I had 90 days validity of my ATT and I spent the first 30 days on core content ... That is why I did the HURST online. I watched the video lectures and finished the whole thing BEFORE I started doing my practice tests. It's easier to do the practice tests because you get to use your core content now in analyzing and believe me the more you are able to see the "whys", the more you will appreciate the rationales. I also used la charity, exam cram, Davis, Hogan and Kaplan... All of these were used by me for the practice tests. You will develop that sense of accomplishment and real confidence when you see your critical thinking evolve... (GRABE!!!!!) it will help you transition your approach to nclex : instead of fear you will feel excited ... I felt exciited yet very calm when the first question appeared ; instead of feeling powerless, you will be able to uncover what the trend of your questions is telling you to do; and finally you will walk out of the test center WITHOUT a doubt in your heart that you passed. I wish you the best of luck..
  10. Hi 4ivyMN I really would recommend hurst online. This online review is good for 90 days and very good.. Core content focused. I was like you.. I worked full time and brought my books and notes to work and looked at them on the downtime or free time. But I did ask my boss if that wld be alright before I did. My boss gave me his blessings so I didn't have issues with co workers. My advice is just IGNORE your negative co workers.. And keep your business to yourself. You don't have to tell people you work with when you are testing or How many times you failed. I just did my reviews at work when possible, was nice to my co workers and didn't try to upstage them or talk to them about my plans. One day I just came in and showed my boss my pearson vue status that said PASS. You don't need people with crab mentality and avoid negative people at all cost !!!
  11. You have excellent review resources!! I took the online hurst and bought the Kaplan book. Knowing my core content and understanding how the test works made my anxiety go away. The questions are not random, they are determined very much by your previous answers. So when I saw a high level test question, I actually thought ..wow, I must have the scored well with the past items. I almost jumped when I saw a drug calculation question and said oh-oh I messed up somewhere. I totally ignored the clock. I ended up with 100 questions and a screen going blue. It took me more than 2 hrs to answer 100 questions.. Believe in yourself and know thyself. Your 6 failed attempts are more important to you now than ever because they hold that important secret you still have not yet discovered hence cannot use. If you had 265 questions it means you were doing good on some and need to address the deficiency of the rest. Which ones..only you can tell. I knew I was ready to test when I could connect the dots and answer the whys and make some smart maybes.. Don't test when you are not prepared to do battle. Good luck, God bless you and take care...
  12. I highly recommend HURST .. I think it works well for pinoys. You can always watch the sample video then decide. Do the online instead of the live class. It allows you to study at a certain pace... For good recall of content .. Then get the Exam Cram, La Charity prioritization book and the kaplan book. I did kaplan last.. Once you are quite confident of your core content then that's the time you do the strategizing. Good luck and mabuhay.
  13. That good pop up made me a believer.. Worked for me
  14. mabuhay ! well done indeed! i really liked the pharma info that you posted here. and the great review tips!!
  15. hi! you better check with the state you are taking your nclex. i'm familiar though with california. what you need to do is go to their website delegated for practical nurses or lvn /lpn www.bvnpt.ca.gov, download the application and if you reside outside california, you have to request for the hard card for fingerprints which you can do by email. if you have been found eligible for the RN test by the Ca BON RN , then you can write the BON RN to send copies of your transcript to the BVNPT for a $30 fee. You can take both the RN and LPN tests. Goodluck and hope things work out well for you. Hope this was helpful
