Failed NCLEX :c

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hello Nurses. I'm a registered nurse back in my country, graduated March 2010, got my license that same year.. Moved to the United States, worked as a server/waitress and finally decided to take the NCLEX just this April. (2013) A lot of people told me the test wasn't that hard. I underestimated the exam and didn't purchase or enroled in any review course. I basically studied by myself.. during the weekends because I'm working full time.

So I took the test, computer stopped at question 75, I got so confident because I've read here that getting only 75 questions usually means you pass so I did the trick only to find out I failed.. And what can I say? I only have myself to blame.. Being 3 years out of school, I should've known this would happen. Now I feel so devastated. I know, I made a mistake and now I have decided to give my 2nd try my best shot, I will quit my job to focus on this and I'll maybe try either Kaplan or Hurst review. I'm planning to take it again maybe by July.

Please help me :c What can you suggest for someone like me who's been out of school for a while? Thanks in advance! I'm sure I'll be a frequent poster here, I really need a support group like all nurses. :)

Hello fellow Filipinos!!! I graduated 2yrs ago also in the Philippines and I passed the boards also that year so i am an RN there. I moved here to the states on 2011 also, tried applying for the CA BON, unfortunately wasn't approved because that year CA BON changed their policies. So anyway, i applied for nevada state, got my att last jan and took the test this april.

I wasn't able to pass :( because same as you, i also work fullltime but i took Kaplan. And for me it wasn't effective. I suggest that if you feel like you need refreshing, take a course that's comprehensive and focuses on content and questions and rationale. Kaplan wasn't able to help me with that :(

Im going to try to take the exam in June. Has anyone tried to register again in pearson?

We can do this. We should just focus on this 100% and it will all be worth it ;)

Use your smartphone to study. It is easier, convenient, and more efficient. I use NCLEX Mastery, Lippincott's app, and Davis mobile

I am a big advocator of mobile apps. If you want to practice NCLEX questions, your phone is WAY better than a text book. Its smaller and YOU ALWAYS HAVE IT WITH YOU! I find this very nice because I can do a few questions here and there (this really adds up!)

I don't take the NCLEX for awhile, but Ive been experimenting with different resources and I have to agree that there are some great apps out there (and some terrible ones). I can't say Im a fan of Lippincotts or David Mobile, but NCLEX Mastery is good. I also like to use as many free ones as possible, they have limited questions but can be useful

Oh wow, we're in the same situation. I think what we need is a review course that can refresh our minds. Being out of school for years makes it really hard, I actually regret not taking it as soon as I passed the board exam back in the PI. But don't worry, we can do it! I mean, we still have it, we finished nursing school & passed our country's board exam. So since Kaplan is all about strategies and the decision tree, I realized I need to REMEMBER the contents first. So from what i've been reading here, when it comes to content, Hurst and Saunders are great. So I'll start with that and when I am AGAIN familiar with the diseases and management, that's when I'll start to use books that are more into test taking strategies. Goodluck with you exam on June! :)

@atlnurse477 & @pronurse45

I strongly agree with both of you. Smartphones are really a big help, I started downloading those apps you mentioned and they seem helpful. I also downloaded NCLEX QB, it has a lot of questions including SATAS but the problem is there's a glitch, it doesn't post your scores. Oh well! thanks guys! It's a big help since I use my phone like almost the whole time.

Hey, did you buy the full version of NCLEX mastery?

In Nevada. Well, anyway, i wish you the best of luck and let's pray also. We can do this!!!

yes mga kabayan, i agreed what you said. its only a matter of focus and concentration. Im also a product of philipppines in 2008 and passed on same year. Just this april 24 i had my shot for ncex the computer stopped at 76 questions. The next day i received email from BON NM informing me that i passed. The books that i used are saunders and udan a filipino author. udan books helped me alot and of course saunders too. One month before the exam i used kaplan online review and it really enhance my test taking strategies. Keep up and cheer up fellas and all of us will have success story, remember PRAYER our best weapon.
