DRUG BOOK FOR NCLEX

get the Kaplan NCLEX-RN medication book, its a small pocket sized one , yellow and blue papercover. they have it on ebay for $25

I was able to borrow the Kaplan NCLEX RN medication book from the library. I didn't really find it helpful though. This was because this book doesn't really group drugs into classes but goes over one drug at a time and then all the nursing considerations. I was able to understand side effects and nursing considerations when drugs were grouped into classes. I didn't really find this book helpful, but depending on your learning style it might work for you.

I found the pharmacology section in the Kaplan Content Review Guide to be very helpful because they break things down by class and go over the class and individual drug Nursing Considerations. This was the book that came with the Kaplan program I took. I think you can get this on amazon for free with Kindle or get the paperback for like $40. I liked the pharm section of this book because I felt it gave the information you really needed to know in an organized manner. I also like that the drugs were grouped into the drug classes and that they were in tables. I am the type of person that finds tables to be very helpful when studying.

I also used Saunders for studying and found the pharmacology sections to just be too much. I read those pharm chapters but it was hard for me to retain the information because there was just so much nursing considerations. I feel the Kaplan Content Review Guide did a good job in having me focus on what were the more important nursing considerations for drug classes.

For me, it helped that I did a lot of pharmacology questions and then read the rationale right after. I feel this really helped me to remember important nursing considerations for drugs. I also made sure to study drug endings and connect it to drug classes and then remember the major side effects for those drug endings and drug classes. I also wrote down rationales to drug questions I would get wrong and then went over my notes. Also, knowing the mechanism of action for drug classes helped me to know drug side effects.

Mosby's Pharmacology it's a little note pad type book filled with drugs, mnemonics I think it's a great book especially if you're a visual learner
