Confused and Overwhelmed!! Please Help.. NCLEX-RN

Nursing Students NCLEX

Hi everyone,

so right now I am studying for my boards and am so overwhelmed .. Some people take Kaplan and say it's the only way they passé bc they teach you had to do questions and while taking the boards they had no idea about any of the content but as long as the did the Kaplan tree they were all set.. Others just did te Hurst Review and just reviewed content and still passed.. I don't understand how a person can pass and just know content or just know how to go about answering a question... I am determined to pass te first time and have even studying hard for this but at this point so many people go about it diff ways I don't know what I should do or where I should focus.. Any input would be great !! Thanksks

Thank you so much RN TX (David). This is just overwhelming like we all know and I know I just have to focus on questions and how I answer questions, but it's hard to decide when is enough.. I am still waiting for my ATT so hopefully it comes soon so I can have an idea how much longer I will study for and can make a plan. I have already been reviewing for over a month using the hurst review.

RN TX (David)-SO jealous. I took mine the 22nd as well, 75 questions, Pearsonvue trick good to go...and the California BRN has yet to even enter in my transcripts : /. So now I wait to officially celebrate. Glad the test is over though.

amanda_dunn3-I feel ya on the stress, girl. Made me nuts!! Honestly, and it very well may have been my Kaplan teacher (super nice guy-but it was his first time), but their approach to answering questions was not the most beneficial aspect to me. It wasn't anything I had not heard before (basically, the process of elimination using Maslow's physiological over psych and then ABC's). What WAS beneficial, however, was that they provided me with a set plan of questions to do per day and had great review videos. I'm an auditory learner, so I need to hear things. I did well over 3000 questions leading up to the NCLEX (Kaplan, ATI and Saunders), watched all the Kaplan videos to get my content refreshed, and studied my labs like a mad woman.

So if you set yourself a great study schedule, do a lot of questions (and score decently-like 60-65 or above-and be sure to review all rationales!), you should be great. I would tell you not to stress, but if you're like me that's not possible ;). Best of luck to you!!

thank you cam_ma.am. That makes me feel a lot better. I have been reviewing a good amount of content and from here on out am going to skim threw content see what other information I may have missed, but otherwise just focus on pharm. and questions. I am using the Prioritization, Delegation, and Assignment book written by Linda A LaCharity, Saunders Review book for questions, and also I have Kaplan (I did not do the class but one of my close friends is going to teach my how to go about answering a question that I have no idea what it is about). I am hoping by using these three books it will really get me up there and able to answer questions correctly and accurately. I cannot wait for this to be over, like many of you this stress is killing me.

I used the Hurst Review primarily and the Saunders for variety. I passed the first time last week with 75 questions. I have been doing NCLEX review questions pertaining to whatever content we were working on during school for the last 2 years. There is no way you can know everything. You need to accept that. Whatever review you do, follow their directions and do what they say. I think using multiple reviews will overwhelm anyone. You need to remember that after making it through nursing school, you already hold the knowledge you need. You just need to apply it. On the NCLEX and in real life. Good luck!

You all are aware that the NCLEX is adaptive testing, right?

Some people from my class passed the NCLEX with little preparation. Then there was me. I took Kaplan, did questions out of Saunders, studied for months, did lots of reading in my weak areas. I passed in 75 questions but my questions were very hard! I figured that I was passing because in the beginning my questions were so easy that I thought to myself, "you're kidding, right?" when I read the question. But as I got into it I was spending 2+ minutes per question. I had to seriously think about my answers. They were NOT straightforward. If I was failing, my questions would have been getting easier, so when I got to question 75 and decided on my answer, I thought to myself, "and now here comes the survey...." I hit "Next" and tada... survey popped up.

Not trying to be haughty about it but some people here are saying that the NCLEX was easier than Kaplan. I did not find it to be the case. I found it to be way harder actually. It can be somewhat of a crap shoot of what kind of test you get, plus the computer adapts to you.

The goal is, obviously, for the computer to evaluate that you are competent above passing level. It's better to be overprepared than underprepared so the OP will probably be just fine.

I did the Sylvia Rayfield review when I was studying years ago. It was very helpful. We got together with some of our classmates and made a trip out of it. And all of us that went, did pass the first time. Maybe this would be helpful for you as well. Good Luck.

Another question I have is how did everyone go about studying for pharm. when studying for the boards. There is so much material to just pharm. in general. Did most of you just learn the endings, what the drug category does, and know some side effects?
