Best and Smartest way to review content?

Nursing Students NCLEX

I have forgotten a good amount of content from the early semesters in Nursing school, and I find review books such as Saunders to be overwhelming.

What is the best way to review or re-learn content? Flashcards? And any tips for making the whole process less overwhelming? I want to keep it focused, simple and doable.

What are the bare bones content needed to know for each topic?

Thanks in advance!

When I started I thought of it like this, you are not going to be able to relearn that much information. At this point it's just doing questions and focusing on where your weaknesses are.

I agree with MissJoanna.

I had a moment of panic when I thought 'I know nothing! I'll rewrite all of my notes!' but I got about 2 topics in before I realized that I was wasting my time. Not only do I have at least 7 binders of content and will never get through it all, but most of the stuff I was writing I already knew and it was wasting valuable study time. It's really overwhelming but I bet you know a lot more than you think you do. Just find a qbank that gives you immediate feedback (at least to start). What I do is, I keep a little notepad beside me when I'm doing questions and anytime I hit something I don't know, or don't feel confident about, or that I just want to review, I write it down. Then after I have a few items, I spend a few hours getting really good at those topics.

For example, my list right now is:

*EKGs - identify and what medications do you treat them

*vaccination schedule

*Child development - review Erickson chart (I have a chart that I found somewhere that I am using to review)

*PHARM

*Glasgow Coma Scale

So then, now that I have a few items, I found this (ECG Simulator | SkillStat Learning - Fast, Fun and Effective!) to practice EKGs and I will have to do some research to memorize the medications

I found a sheet that has the recomended vaccination schedule on it, as well as my Erickson chart

Pharm is a little tricky because I have certain drugs I need to review

And I spend about a half an hour reviewing the Glasgow Coma Scale and I feel pretty confident about it now!

So instead of looking at *Everything* I do what comes up that I need to review! (In addition, I also put things on my list that I know that I need to work on, like lab values, I had about 10 of them that I needed to review, so I used this (Lab Values (Game) Flashcards - Cram.com) to study all of them!)

So find out what your weaknesses are, and focus on them! You'd be surprised how much easier everything gets if you just give those trouble topics an hour!

Good luck!
