There seems to be no jobs for a new graduate nurse

U.S.A. Missouri

I have turned in many applications I bet at least 50 or more. I have had a few interviews but they seem to go nowhere. I checked on new grad programs but most don't start till june. Does anyone know of a hospital that is actually hiring new grads that are not currently working at their hospital as a tech.

I'm getting very nervous. I'm supposed to start an accelerated program next month. I worked hard to do well completing my prereqs. but I don't want to go into massive debt and not be able to find a job upon graduation. Are a lot of recent grads. in the STL area having a hard time getting a job upon graduation? It sure sounds that way. Yikes!

I'm not sure..I know I haven't found one yet. I had to take a job as an LPN because I can't find any RN jobs. I already have my RN license but still have to work and only be paid as an LPN...it's depressing.

I'm sorry that you were unable to find an RN job. Did you at least get any interviews for RN positions??

Thanks

Well I am a male nurse... Been one for 5 years so far. I will share my experience at one of Barnes facilities... I was employed by them for about 6 months as a new nurse. During that time our floor hired and fired 3 different managers. Other nurses made up stuff about me and submitted it to get me into trouble. I was called in on my days off to answer these allegations (one time I was on a vacation 180 miles away and was told if I didn't get there in the morning to defend myself I wouldn't have a job when I got back). Every one of these items which came against me were proven wrong, however even so I was not compensated for my travel or my lost vacation. However this facility had a nice way of protecting people who slander others(in fact when I was there the person who was being slandered had no recourse except to leave). It was a good way to get a male nurse off the floor....just keep making stuff up about them until they get so fed up with having to defend themselves that they leave. I would bag groceries before I worked for that facility again. And yes it is harder for a male nurse to get their foot in the door... but keep at it! After you get some experience you should have no problems getting a job. Now I have 2 part time nursing jobs and one full time job as a charge nurse!

On the other side I have worked at 2 other Barnes facilities as an agency nurse and have been treated quite well and had a great time at them! So just because one facility or branch of a hospital isn't the greatest doesn't mean all are!

I am so sorry that this happened to you. All I can tell you is that from an outsider looking in, when my father was in the hospital one of the very BEST nurses that he had was a male. That nurse not only cut his hair but also gave him the best shave he had probably ever gotten. I am not a nurse yet but I can see why men would be so needed in the workplace if they have the right "personality". I think men in nursing are amazing and probably some of the best nurses I have ever seen!!
