Student Internships

SSM was recently on our campus with information about a Student Nurse Internship Program offered during the winter and summer semester breaks.

Is anyone familiar with these or have any information about them? Is anyone aware of any others that may be offered in the area by other facilities?

There was at least one student in my class that did an SSM externship over the summer, I believe in med/surg or neuro ICU. She said she enjoyed it.

BJC also offers a summer externship through UMSL, but you need not be an UMSL student in order to get it. Several of my classmates did this one and I heard a lot of good things about it.....some ended up accepting new grad positions on the floor they did the externship with. You get paid a decent salary (I think it was $300-400 per week) and they have a lot of areas to choose from. Off the top of my head, my classmates did externships in NICU, L & D, PICU, and general peds. The only thing is that you will be required to attend a class every Monday from 9-12. I don't know what all they do in the class, but I know they had to put together presentations and such. But hey, you do get 3 college credit hours for it!
