RN's in the Ozarks

U.S.A. Missouri

Published

I have asked about SMSU's program, but no response. Are there any nurses who live in the Ozark area who could recommend an academic RN program or hospital in the area? I love this area of Missouri and want to relocate. I have checked websites out for institutions in the area, but would appreciate having some personal opinions as well.

Thank you in advance,

Barbara

I live in Branson, I will be starting an ASN online program in the Fall. St Johns has a waiting list and so does Cox. SMSU is going up on tuition again. I will be taking some of my classes at Ozark Tech. I love the area as well.

...thank you so very much for your insight!

I am not a nursing student yet but I have been an SMSU student for the last 8 years and can tell you that it's a great school. I love smsu. I keep finding ways to stay there......lol. Cox in my opinion is the better hospital, St. Johns is the other major health system in the Springfield area and it is located only a couple miles south of SMS on national street. Cox is on national as well but further south. If you havn't already, you can check out their website at http://www.smsu.edu

If you have any other questions let me know. :)

Well, the faculty position at Southwest Missouri State University was filled, so I am looking at other schools and nurse practice jobs in the Springfield area. Regardless, as soon as this house sells, we will be moving there!

Thank you all for your responses,

Barbara

SBU's nursing program is affiliated with St. John's Hospital in Springfield. I have heard good things about both SBU and Cox and have worked with many excellent nurses who have graduated from one or the other of those schools. I think that Cox would be less expensive than SBU, but I have not really researched that.

Sorry I wasn't able to post this sooner. I'm currently enrolled in Cox College and it's not too bad price wise. They offer both ASN and BSN programs :)

Hey there! I'm also a student at Cox College. I have to say that it's a pretty good school. I don't know a whole lot about SBU but when I was checking out nursing schools, I didn't get a run around at Cox. I started summer of "04" and got accepted into the nursing program starting this fall. I called SMSU once and they told me the lowest GPA they let in was a 3.8. Not sure but i've been happy at Cox. Good Luck!! :)

You might consider Missouri Southern State University in Joplin.
