Does anyone have any idea where I could get CNA training in the Kansas City metro area? Thank you!

Can you tell me more information on the process with United Services? I read this post last week and so I went into United Services offices today and the lady at the front desk gave me the number to one of the guys that handles this, and said that I needed contact him. I wasnt able to reach him today, but I was wondering what you had to do, in order to get the help to for the CNA classes.

I just finished with my CNA training through MEDS and took my state exam on 2-8-12. It was a great program! I wish I had done it years ago. You put down a deposit ($325.00) and then make 2 payments of $225.00. The course is 8 weeks long. The clinicals were in Lee's Summit (Wilshire at Lakewood, Seasons Care Center) and Raytown (Hidden Lake). It ws an excellent program and I learned a ton. :)

thanks for that information, i am so interested in doing this as well to have a stepping stone in the right direction for nursing. now that you have finished has meds provided you with any assistance on getting a job or anything like that? also what was the time frame that was allowed for you to make the additional 225.00 payments? i think i might go ahead and call them tomorrow to see about coming in and talking with someone about the program

I think the first payment was 2 weeks after class started and the second payment was the 4th week. I went Tuesdays and Thursdays. They have a list of places that are hiring and some will hire you before you're certified because MEDS students are that good. There was also a couple of home health companies that came and talked to us. I really want a job in a hospital so I am kind of holding out for that. Plus, I am in school taking A&P and Psych 243 and applying to LPN programs. I really just did it for the experience and because sometimes it helps you get into a program. I always had the intention of going on to LPN and then bridging to RN. Call them...they are really nice and helpful. They also have a FB page if you're on there and a website www.medskc.com I think. Okay thanks for that info, I am going to make sure I make that call in the morning. If you dont mind me asking where are you taking your A&P class at? I have to take Bio 100 during the summer and then I can take A&P in the fall. If you are taking it at MCCKC, can you tell me who your teacher is and what you think about it? Sure. I am taking A&P at Blue River. I took just Anatomy there last semester (I was planning to do them separate) and had an awful experience. I was taking Chem 105 at the same time, too. Give me your email and I can tell you about my teacher. I like him. :)

So I've been reading a lot of your comments about MEDS. Do they have any financial assistance to help students who can't pay that full balance or they direct you somewhere to get help with the costs?

I'm sorry, I'm just now seeing these responses! I'm sure you already have all of your information. I don't think they offer financial assistance, but I'm not positive.

I took my state exam in September, and started working at North Kansas City Hospital in November. I didn't really start looking for work until mid-October when my certification actually came in the mail. My HR rep said so many positive things about Meds. A lot of CNA's at my hospital came from Meds. Also, my manager told me as long as I stay in good status and get my BSN (no ADN's get jobs there because they're going for magnet status) then I am pretty much guaranteed a job. I know this is true because just since November, I've seen 4 techs graduate nursing school, and immediately get offered an RN job. I work in progressive care/telemetry which is normally a tough position for a new grad. It's a huge weight off of my shoulders to know that I won't have to suffer in my job search after nursing school like so many other new grads do. All thanks to Meds. :)

Since commenting on here, I got a job in a hospital so I have decided not to do the LPN and then bridge to RN thing and just go for the BSN. I am working at St. Mary's Medical Center on the Telemetry floor. I got my CNA license in Feb 2012 and started there in May 2012. I held out for a hospital job and it worked out! There are several CNA's from MEDS there too. It's a great program for sure! I am applying for nursing schools now to start in January.
