Any other new grads concerned about finding a job??

I'm going to graduate in May and I'm really concerned that I won't find a job. I'm applying, but I'm really afraid right now. There are tons of new grads, but the hospitals aren't really hiring alot of us. This is really scary.

I also graduate in May, and I'm not too worried. The school I go to has an awesome track record with graduate placement, and those that do not get hired initially are put into a float pool and then after their internship is over they can apply on their own. I'm also in a smaller city, which I think makes a difference. There is more competition and more graduates applying, but I think we'll come out okay.

Best of luck to you!

Turns out you were right!! I had two offers for job interviews and received a formal offer from one, which I accepted. Now I can focus on graduating and passing the NCLEX!

Way to go - Congratulations!!!

Do you min dmy asking how much your starting pay is going to be? I'm graduating in December 2010 from a school in STL.

I haven't gotten a clear answer on what they usually offer new grads here in STL.

Thanks!

I'm in SW MO and the base pay for a nurse with a BSN is $17.75 with $3.05 night shift diff. It's not as much as *I* think it should be for 4.5 years of school, but I'll take it :p

St Louis pay is right at 18.00 an hour plus 3-4 dollars an hour shift diff for new grads. Many places offer bonus/double/triple bonus and overtime...yada yada. I know I was making around 18 an hour but with overtime and bonus and what not I worked 12 of 14 days in a pay period and grossed $4700.

My base is $20.10. That does not include differentials for evening, nights, or weekends.

Jammin....not sure what hospitals you're talking about, but that pay scale is not what's in place at any of the big ones in St. Louis. They all start new grads at just over $20 an hour, NOT including night, weekend differentials, etc. And there's absolutely no differential for new grads. Not sure what you're talking about there.

Well my experience, having recently graduated, is around $20/hr base pay for new grads. You do get shift differentials, but many hospitals are no longer offering bonuses or loan repayment for new grads at this time.

And don't forget to check out hospitals on the Illinois side. The pay is comparable.

Apply early is my best advice.

Prior to graduation a year and a half-ago from SLU i thought "oh it will be so easy getting a job blah blah blah we have great grad-placement, i have great recommendations, etc".. I decided to wait until after taking my NCLEX to look for a job. I passed my NCLEX then started applying in July... I didn't get a job offer until September! I am REALLY glad that I waited until passing boards to start work, but I would have #1 taken boards sooner #2 applied to jobs when they told us to in school. Places just get so many job apps during graduation season (may, aug, dec)

good luck to you! hope this helped
