  1. Do you min dmy asking how much your starting pay is going to be? I'm graduating in December 2010 from a school in STL. I haven't gotten a clear answer on what they usually offer new grads here in STL. Thanks!
  2. try to retake some of the classes... bring it up to at least a 2.5. a lot more schools will take that 2.5 bench mark but not 2.0.. a little too low i personally do not know any colleges that will take 2.0 but i had a 2.5~ gpa going into nursing school and i found a handful of schools that fit ME (so there were more, but they didnt fit ME specifically) if your gpa is that low i would imagine it's because you've failed a few classes? seriously consider taking them over, many schools will forgive (and not count in ur gpa) that first failing grade...this is EXTREMELY Helpful! even if you dont get an a, a b with 3 points..certainly helps. good luck!
  3. listen, i majorly messed up prior to nursing school....like, i got KICKED out from my university for getting less than a 1.7 or something. i brought it up to a 2.56 and the school i found would accept anyone with a 2.5 you just had to wait on a loooong waiting list. when there is a will there is a way! i found the school that worked for me and did what i had to do to get there, which included moving. once in nursing school, having been given a second chance, i am doing great. i consistently get a's and b's on tests, and score above avg in everything. i'm a year in and i've scored 95/100 on both of my finals. when there is a will, there is a way!! do not give up. for me, it was not an option. i knew i had messed up (young, dumb and stupid) but nursing is my passion and i am so glad i stuck with it and found a school that would work with me. i dont think i'll be a bad nurse because of my less than stellar gpa. good luck to you.
  4. i had ob..hated it..super boring! nobody gave birth while i was there!
  5. for example, i go to school in one state (state a) which is not where im from (state b) i plan on getting licensed in state a because they suggest you take the test in the state in which you graduated from...even though it's a national exam and i doubt it really matters. once you pass the test you do not have to take it over, you just need to pay fees in the new state. i called the license office of state b where i will move back to eventually and they said it would take approx. 180$ to get a license to practice there. you just need to check out the spec. requirements for the state you're moving to.
  6. Out of the 12 or so clinicals in my first semester, at least half were Cdiff or MRSA. No TB. My first pt was on Cdiff..my very first time ever in the hospital.. It was scary but you get over it. You'll be fine, promise.
  7. i love nursing school.. it might be because i have an awesome clinical instructor this semester...and one of my best friends in the program with me..... but i really do love :redbeathe:redbeathe:redbeathe:redbeathe:redbeathe:redbeathe nursing school. the thought of clinicals used to TERRIFY me...to the point of every single day i felt like a fraud, like i shouldn't be there..like i really didnt know what i was doing..and are they reallllly trusting me to be alone with this pt? what if something goes wrong..and i don't know what to do? that's how nervous i would get. but now.... wow. i LOVE clinicals. my favorite ones are when i get to do new procedures. love. :loveya: i can do without lectures and WOW some of my classmates? i really hope to NEVER see them again. (can we say obnoxious..) but overall....NS is AWESOME!
  8. Same with my school! + for insurance purposes.
  9. I think you should wait to see what you got.. Come back and let us know what you got and then make some decisions =) Don't worry- I'm like you. I try to plan everything out for the "worst case possible"
  10. PLEASE break up with him. My ex almost ruined school for me. I think one reason I failed my first test this semester is I had to deal with his BS the weeks prior to the test. He was calling me at 4am, 4 hours before my test, to yell at me about something. I failed. I dumped him. Moving on.. This if my equation Nursing school/My Future > Everything Else My family also goes hand in hand w/ my future but they love and support me enough to know that nursing school comes first.
  11. I'm so sorry. I met my nursey buddy on the first day of Nursing 101/Fundamentals and I do not know what I would do without her. Thankfully she is smarter than me (LOL) so I don't have to worry about her failing out... just me! But really, I am sorry to hear that. I know how awesome it is to have that one person to turn to in nursing school who knows EXACTLY what you're going through. She and I have never had clinicals together, and so I have had a lot of interaction with other students, but during class and practicum it's me + her. Try to befriend another student. I personally find it easy to make friends. Just be friendly. Good luck!!!!

I had the worst day today! I failed my first nursing test so far in my nursing school career by 1 point... The avg score was only a few points more than that, so I didn't feel sooo bad (it was the "hard test" of the semester)... BUT THEN I SAW WHAT I DID. I marked 3 correct answers on my test, and then BUBBLED IN THE WRONG LETTER ON THE SCANTRON. OH MY GOSH. NOT JUST ONCE, BUT THREE TIMES. I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW MAD I AM AT MYSELF. Not only would I not have failed, but I would've been right at the class avg! I am SO angry. I cannot cannot cannot believe I made such a careless mistake. ALWAYS GO BACK AND RECHECK RECHECK RECHECK!!!!! Usually I'm not so careless... I don't know where my head was at My instructor was actually the one to point it out to me! :crying2:
