I went online today and applied for a federal grant & a MS grant. When I filed for the federal grant it said that based on my estimated family contribution that I probley would not received any federal grants. Did anyone else get this answer & then get the grant anyways? I am freaking out. This will be the only way I will be able to afford to go to school. I worked last year but I have not worked since August of last year. So we are a 1 income family of 4 right now till I get out of school. Just wondering if anyone else went thru this issue with the federal grants. Any help?

What did you fill out? Is this the FAFSA? What is MS grant? Are you married with kids..or do you have to count your parent's income?

I never filled out anything but FAFSA..and got quite a bit in grants.

I filed out the form on the federal website and the MS website. The MS one does not tell you anything at first. I just checked the website for the federal grants and it just shows that my request has been processed but not the result.

I am married with 2 kids. I worked most of the year last year, I lost my job while on bed rest w/my 2nd child. So our total adjusted income was around $60k. So I am sure they are looking at that thinking I make enough money. But I am not working now, and will not be while I am going to school. So we will be a family of 4 living on 1 income.

I really hope that I get federal aid. Thats the only way I will be able to go to school.

I'm going crazy!!!

Ms. Kim, you will probably not receive a federal Pell grant in the first year of the program, due to the fact that the Feds use your income tax return from the previous year to determine eligibility. After two years of school, I finally qualify for a Pell, and I graduate before I can even get it.

You will, however, qualify for the Federal student loan programs. Other questions? What does the school offer for ACT scores? An ACT score of 21 qualifies students at Holmes for tuition scholarships. Check with your financial aid office (Go there and sit down in front of them with an appointment) and see what they can and will offer in the financial aid package.
