Any Minneapolis/St. Paul folks out there?

This is a long shot, but I wanted some advice or help!

My fiance got a job in the Eagan area, and I am applying to transfer my RN license to Minnesota so I can start applying for jobs. Then, I can move and be with him. I am currently living in Nebraska.

The issue is, I have only been a nurse for about 2 months now. We plan on living in Minnesota for the rest of the foreseeable future (no plans to move after that), but I am afraid I will have a tough time finding a job with this little of experience. Does anyone have any suggestions or help? I am a cardiac nurse taking care of anyone ranging from post CABG to post cath-lab, and artifical hearts and LVADs. I feel this gives me some good experience, but maybe not enough. By the time I want to move, I'll probably have 2-3 months of experience total.

Any hospitals you think might be hiring? Or outpatient gigs?

Thanks for your help! (:

This forum moves slow. But all you can do it just try... Look at Regions, Health East systems, Allina systems, Fairview, and U of M Physicians.

Hello!

Welcome to MN. Eagan is a great area tons of hospitals and healthcare facilities around to apply at. I graduated two years ago, in general what I have seen from my classmates is it takes about a year of working in a TCU or LTC for you to get into a hospital job. I am not sure how/if your cardiac experience will help since it is so limited. Definitely apply to everywhere you can, but to be realistic you may have to work in a TCU for awhile before you can get back into a hospital. I was lucky, I got into a hospital with a 2 year degree after only 4 months in a TCU but only because I had worked as a student nurse at the hospital. BSNs are preferred of course but 2 year R.N.s do get hired in hospitals still (I am not sure if you are a BSN or not). Anyway best of luck to you! If you have any other questions I could help with please feel free to PM me.

Hello!

Welcome to MN! I just relocated here from Pennsylvania just last summer and I applied for tons of jobs before I actually moved. My only experience as a RN is 2 years in an ED. So I wanted to see what outpatient was like and applied to some outpatient jobs but never got any callbacks. I did get callbacks from urgent cares that needed a new nurse for next week so I had to let those go. I came here for a interview at one of the Allina systems hospitals and was offered the job in the ED.

During my orientation I met a lot of new grad nurses who got inpatient jobs but many were only part-time. So part-time might be an option to apply to just so you can get yourself in the door and then possibly work up your FTE. Also other new hires were in the outpatient clinics first for few months before they were hired as inpatient. Like the comments before mine, I'd apply everywhere, lots of large health systems here! I get postings from HealthPartners all the time, they are looking for outpatient positions. Look at the region's hospital website for their inpatient postings. Best of luck! You can also PM me as well if you have other questions!

Hey Skips,

I wrote my PM to you and then realized I can't reply to your PM because not enough posts >.<. here my email>

I grew up in MN, and now work for Allina. I have been with them for two years and they are great. Abbott or United would be the two hospitals closest to Eagan within the Allina system, however there is also a great need for homecare nurses in Allina too. They're a great company, offer competitive pay and benefits.

Good luck!
