Patient Care Techician Jobs

U.S.A. Michigan

Hello Everyone!smile.png

I just completed my training as a Patient Care Technician . I take my National Test for PCT on Dec 18th. In the past few months I have seen job posting for PCT's at DMC and ST Johns. They are all asking for experience as a PCT. I have a few months experience as a Home Care Aide where I have taken vitals, personal care bathing, feeding...(cna work), but this has been on a on call basis only. The company has not been that busy. Could someone tell where can I get hired as a PCT without experience as a PCT at a hospital. I want to start work so I can save for Nursing School. I am taking my nursing school requirements now. I would like to work at Providence in Southfield sp I wouldn't have a commute. But if other hospitals are hiring thats great too. Also, can you tell me what is the pay range of PCT's. Thanks for the help and information.

Shirl.

I know a few people who work at St. John's as PCTs with no training or experience. I have applied for those jobs as well and haven't gotten a single interview. It seems like its all about who you know or about calling until you find the right person to talk to.

I applied for 100 DMC PCA/PCT jobs before I got an interview. I got hired as a L&D Assistant (Labor and Delivery). I work midnights and do easy work. I make $14.20 with shift dift. I know true PCA's (who do blood draws and vitals) Start at around 15.50 in the DMC. You just need to apply apply apply. I also had a PCA job in the PACU and the pay offer was 11.83. When I interviewed for my L&D position I was told the pay was 9.83 but after three months my income increased to 14.20, I wasn't told why or that it would. I took this one because the PACU job didnt agree with my schedule.

Edit: I only have to transport patients from triage to their assigned room, and transport specimens to their respective labs, and light stocking duty.

Have you ever thought of dialysis? I was a dialysis PCT for 8 yrs. You will have to retrain and be certified (when I started you didn't have to), it will be provided on the job by the company. It's quite rewarding and the pay is decent ($14.50-$19.50) and youre not expected to have experience. It's rough, bone breaking, perplexing (how can a person with a 69/40 bp be asymptomatic?!?!?) work at first, it gets easier with time. Try Davita dialysis, Fresenius dialysis, and HFHS(Greenfield Health). They own basically everything in Michigan dialysis related. Botsford dialysis, Beaumont dialysis, U of M dialysis, The Michigan Department of Corrections has a S.E. Michigan clinic for the entire state and the V.A. Detroit has an outpatient clinic. DMC has very few dialysis PCT's and the ones they do have aren't anywhere close to retirement they're not going anywhere. The privately owned mom and pop clinics usually want you to have experience. Take a look. Good luck!

Not sure where her/his numbers come from but a PCA does not start at 15.50! Maybe only if they had tons of experience. Student Nurse Associates start at 15.95 and all PCA's start at 11.83.

I would keep applying even if they say you need experience. We have several PCAs that never had previous expereince, and when I went to my orientation this summer there were many PCAs that were inexperienced or may have only volunteered (a great idea while you wait!).

I know people who started at 15.50 with only a few years. As I said before. I was making 14.20 with no experience.

I'm a x autoworker, I want to work and if being a PCT gives me job security and a decent pay at 14 to 16 dollars a hour I can live and retire with that
