OU ABSN Interviews for May 2011 Cohort

U.S.A. Michigan

Published

Hi guys! Interviews started today for the May 2011 cohort, and I think I was one of the first few to interview. I know we can't talk about specific questions that were asked during the interview, but I just wanted to see if anyone would like to share their reactions/experience here.

I personally felt pretty good, I did get one "I love your answer!" so that made me feel a little more secure:D since I felt like I stumbled on this one other question. I did feel a little rushed since they told me the interview would be super short right in the beginning  (did anyone else feel that way?) I didn't get a clear answer on where we will be having clinicals/classes though....

I'm sure it will be another month after interviews end until we all get mailed acceptance letters.

Any thoughts you would like to share?.....

Yea, by reapply they mean, just to the nursing school for the 2nd degree program, not to OU in general. You are good with the classes you already enrolled for. The advisor told me they should have our transcripts on file so no need to re-request transcripts from other schools.

P.S. I am SERIOUSLY considering emailing the advisor about the short interviews. But I would feel more comfortable doing it if I knew there were others that were going to too.

Just wanted to say sorry to all those who didn't get in and I hope you wont give up and will reapply for the next semester!

the email I got and OUs website say 2 different things for the new requirements. Unfortunately I dont have a 3.2. Say I reply by sept 1st and dont get in again? Does this mean I will have to redo a class in Winter 10 to reapply? Or am I "grandfathered in" because my prereqs are done? This sucks they only give you a couple days notice because now I'll have to redo my schedule and the department wont respond!!!

also I want to email about the interview too because thats not fair some people had 1 person and others had 2. If the one person didnt like you..then your screwed vs. having 2 people one may really like you and help push to get you in.

Now I am confused. I am looking at the new requirement of a 3.2 for all of the pre-requisites. The new application says that the pre-requisites need to have a grade of 3.2 or "B" (on a 4.0 scale). Then father down the paper, it says that transfer letter grades of a "B" are worth 3.0. So.....does that mean I have to retake the 2 classes I got a "B" in? The college that I attended didn't do the -/+ thing so there was no possibility of earning a B+.

Prettygirl5,

I'm having trouble getting the department to respond too. It's frustrating. I am already enrolled in a couple of clasees, but I need to find out if I need to enroll in the others to "redo" my classes. I got 2 B's, but B's aren't worth 3.2 on a 4.0 scale. The paperwork says you need a 3.2 or a "B". The two aren't equal, so I am confused too.

Also, I can't remember but do classes "expire" at OU after a certain amount of time? At some schools the classes will expire after 10 years or whatever. So, do they at OU?

I think I figured it out. I've reread it a thousand times, I think. But I think you have to have at least a 2.8 in each of the science/math pre-requisites and also have an overal 3.2 in the group. Is anyone else reading it that way? In that case, I wouldn't have to retake the classes I got B's in as long as I have an overal 3.2 in the science/math section.

I believe they do expire but not sure on the time frame. As to the classes its 5 classes (bio 111, 121, Psy 100, CHM 104, 204 that require what you stated above. However I'm confused on how is says...If your pre reqs are done AND submitted an application by Sept 1st you do not need to follow the new criteria. I can reapply before then but what happens if I apply and get rejected again? Do I have to follow the 3.2 gpa and redo a class? Or am I reading too far into the statement. It seems harsh to have students redo classes because of this.

I think everyone is asking really good questions. I will be very interested to see what the school says. Also, very interesting that no one is responding to questions right now. The new requirements confuse me too. I believe it is an overall 3.2 GPA, but at least a 2.8 in your Section A courses. I will have to retake biology if I am not grandfathered in. That will really **** me off. Also, I do not believe classes expire at OU. I took intro Chem in 1997-1998 and it was still accepted this time around when I applied to OU.

I'm really annoyed that people who have no healthcare experience and lower GPAs than me have been accepted... but I'm hearing of people with a great deal of experience and passion for nursing being rejected.

Also was anyone else asked if they were married or had children in their interview... ? Because I was, and that shouldn't be part of an interview process AT ALL!

Hey Bronzemint23,

I agree with you. I have tons of experience and feel like I was rejected for perhaps the wrong reasons. I wasn't asked out right if I was married or had kids, but the subject was brought up. I only mentioned that I had a husband because they would have seen my wedding ring.

Hi all. Sorry to hear the bad news. This was my second time applying and not getting accepted. The first time I applied I didn't get much feedback as to what may have been wrong. I rewrote my essay and the 2nd time around I had experience as a CNA as well and was still not accepted. I will try once more at Oakland since I took all my classes there and 2 of them won't transfer anywhere else so it doesn't leave me many options.

Also, the interview the first time I applied was completely and totally different than my second interview. My first time I was in the room for at least 30 minutes with 2 people. This time was 10 minutes with 1.

The thing that is most frustrating for me, is that I understand they have to tell some people no, and I get that I was one of them, but between my first time applying and not getting accepted, and this second time, I haven't received any feedback as to why I was told no, or even a direction as to what I can improve on. I've put my life on hold for nearly 2 years now pursuing this dream, taken out thousands in loans, and I feel like we are just another number or name on a paper. No answers, no feedback, nothing. It's just completely frustrating.
