OU ABSN Interviews for May 2011 Cohort

U.S.A. Michigan

Published

Hi guys! Interviews started today for the May 2011 cohort, and I think I was one of the first few to interview. I know we can't talk about specific questions that were asked during the interview, but I just wanted to see if anyone would like to share their reactions/experience here.

I personally felt pretty good, I did get one "I love your answer!" so that made me feel a little more secure:D since I felt like I stumbled on this one other question. I did feel a little rushed since they told me the interview would be super short right in the beginning  (did anyone else feel that way?) I didn't get a clear answer on where we will be having clinicals/classes though....

I'm sure it will be another month after interviews end until we all get mailed acceptance letters.

Any thoughts you would like to share?.....

I think we have until Sept. 15th to reapply.

really? that soon!?!? Where did you find the date?

I got it verbally from my advisor. She said if I wanted to redo my goal statement it was due Sept. 15th.

What kind of things are you guys writing? There isn't really a question posed...it just says "goal statement". I obviously don't want to mess it up like I did last time. I'm not asking for particulars, but I don't think they want the usual "why do you want to be a nurse". Any thoughts? Anyone have any suggestions? Maybe those who got into the program could provide additional suggestions?

I feel really bummed out for you guys. I just read this whole thread and I would be a

mess if I had to go through this. I dont exactly have a personality that shines or

stands out. Im rather introverted and would probably never live up to expectations

with an essay or an interview. This seems like more of a popularity contest than an

opportunity at an education based on your academic capabilities.

I feel for all of you with myself included. Even with high GPA's it's near impossible to get into ADN or BSN programs in Michigan.

Did everyone get their new/updated applications in yet? My should have gotten there yesterday.

Hey everyone,

Just thought I'd give my 2 cents on the goal statement for you. I was accepted for the May 2011 cohort. My goal statement really focused on what inspired me to make a career change and exactly why I want to become a nurse. I outlined the steps I had been taking to get to that point and really communicated what I planned to be doing in the future, after I get my degree. I won't go into specifics as each person has a unique story to tell. Make sure you tell them your story. Be sure to really let them know how you feel.

I know that when I interviewed, the interviewer had definitely read my goal statement and we discussed it. I don't think this is a popularity contest like others have said. I think they want to see that you are dedicated, that you are willing to sacrifice, and that you can handle stressful situations well. Make sure they see that in you. True, some people are going into nursing for the wrong reasons (money), but I truly think that they are looking for that someone who wants to be in it for the right reasons.

We are all coming from different backgrounds and degrees. Really ask yourself why you made this change, and talk about it in your goal statement. Hope this helps guys. Keep on going after your dreams, don't let the process get you down. I know it's hard. It took me years to get to this point, and it's going to just get harder, but I'm sure the rewards will be great:) Wishing you all the very best!

I emailed/called the adviser and still have not heard back. Does anyone know when they will be interviewing for fa 2011?

I asked but was not told anything about when they will be interviewing next.

If anyone has the financial ability and can relocate for 16 months Oklahoma City University accepts everyone (assuming you

have the prereqs.) You can start as early as Jan 2011 but the downside is the cost of about $60,000. They do have some

scholarships to help offset the high private school tuition. Contact nursing coordinator for more infomation.

I'm guessing interviews will be in Nibember, but I'm only guessing. Last time, they started scheduling interviews about 6 weeks after the application deadline. So if they do that again, they would be inviting people fir interviews around November. I asked too, but couldn't get an exact answer.
