NCLEX BOOKs for WCCCD

I am starting my first semester at Wayne County I am trying to purchase a couple of NCLEX books for study tools, my problem is what books have been helpful for past students at Wayne County. There are so many books to choose from.

Basically, I used any of the Saunders or Mosby NCLEX books. I just checked them out from the lib. In particular, this is what I used:

Fundamentals Success: A course review applying critical thinking to test taking ISBN: 0-8036-1056-4

For Med-Surg:

Mosby's Rapid Review Series Medical-Surgical nursing ISBN: 0-323-01177-2

Lippincott's Review Series Medical Surgical Nursing ISBN: 1-58255-348-3

For Care Plans (2nd 7.5 weeks and beyond)

Nursing Diagnosis Hankbook A guide to planning care by Ackley and Ladwig

There are a lot more recent editions, I have the 6th edition

I use Mosby's NCLEX review and I just bought Saunders NCLEX review and love it..they both offer a different outlook. I have about 3 nursing care plan books, All in One....is okay, but not the greatest...Carpenito, is pretty good as well. Good luck to you and happy studying..

Okay, first day jitters are setting in. I am reading chapter 3 AGAIN. I am even going over some Math and Med-Surg stuff today. I have my son's school clothes out and ready for the next 3 days. My house is all painted and clean. Now I just need to figure out how to relax till tomorrow. Andrea, what time is your clinical? I am leaving my house at 1:30P. I have to run to NW before I meet Terry.

Oh, guess what else I did? Me, "Mrs. Betty NONbaker". I prepared a Quiche for when hubby gets home from his Midnight shift tomorrow AM. It is our 13th year wedding anniversary.....this is as good as it gets buddy!! He will go to bed and I will not see him till Tuesday.....:o

Oops, I guess I should have PM you Andrea....sorry to bore you guys with my idle chit-chat. I don't feel like re-typing so here it goes..:nuke:

I agree with DaMomma, the Saunders are excellent. Many instructors use test questions from this book.

You can also go to the Evolve website and get an account. You can access any of the books. I usually use the Lackley & Adwig (and I don't have to buy the book!!). It's AWESOME for generating careplans. You just select the Nursing diagnosis and it will come up with a careplan for you. It really helps when you just can't think of an appropriate intervention and it also gives the rationale.

This is just me, but I hate the Patho book. So when I have to figure out a disease and what's going on, I go to some of the hospital websites (DMC.org, Henryford.com)and research it that way. It's in plainer English (because it's for patient ed) and it has all kinds of links and animations (I'm a visual learner).
