LPN at Baker

U.S.A. Michigan

Published

We just had our meeting with the program director about the LPN program and she said most of those accepted have a 4.0 or basically ace the HESI. I am afraid I am going to do all of this for nothing, I am not a 4.0 student, I would say I am going to get about 3.5 - 3.8 and the HESI I have no clue. I am so scared that I will go through this and not get in then have to wait a couple of years to get into a program I really don't want to go into.

I was just reading about others opinion of Baker, and what colleges will accept my credits from there. what is the opinion of OCC? I was thinking of trying OCC if it don't work out at Baker. Thanks for all the help, This is a big thing for me and my family, this is our ticket to financial stability, it has been my and my husbands dream since we have been together to send me to school.

I failed my hesi twice, and was a 2.8 GPA type of student. I truly anticiapated having to retake my NCLEX. Surprise for me, I passed the first time that I took it!!! I studied like heck for the 3 months before graduation (in May) and was scheduled to take the exam the first week of July. I had 83 questions. To say that I was nervous while waiting for the results is an understatement. By the way, I got married 2 days after I took the exam. It is doable. Don't get discouraged, study like heck. I used the Lippincotts NCLEX study guide. I wish you luck.

Karlee, you didnt say where you went to school. I am curious also because I am doing pre req's at OCC and am worried about the same thing. Wasting my time and money.I have to pay my own school and wonder how to pay back loans if I have a bunch of useless classes with no prospects if I dont get a high enough gpa. Do you really have to be a 4.0 student to get into ns?

Who did you speak to? Was it Linda or was it Chris?? Because Linda is no longer here anymore and chris has taken over the director position, and I know for a fact there are students in my nursing class that do not have a 4.0. There are maybe 7 students with a 4.0 but the rest have anywhere from a 3.5-3.9, I have a 3.89 and got a 84 on the hesi, which really is not all that bad. Even though they say it is timed, it really isn't timed how I thought it would be. You have an alotted time to finish the whole thing, but you are not timed per subject. So if you are faster in one area then another then you have more time to spend on those areas that you need more time in.

Also, in the hesi, there is biology and Chemistry which is not required for the program but there is no way to take it out of the hesi test so they do not count those points, so I just went through and put whatever down and took me all of 5 min. to do both of them and then I gained extra time to work on the other subjects.

Don't get discouraged.

If you ever want to talk please feel free to PM me or you can also talk to any of us nursing students at the campus. We are more than happy to help out.

Another thing is you should join the nursing guild and come to the meetings. Meetings are held once a semester for future nursing students and you can ask whatever questions you have.

I can keep you updated as to when the meeting for that will be. I'm actually the president of our nursing class and I am in charge of holding all the nursing guild meetings. So please feel free to PM me or contact me at school.
