I just turned in my application package to the EMU Nursing office. I was wondering if anyone else is out there waiting for the letter on June 15th. So excited and good luck to everyone!!

Scrubs must be hunter green and can be purchased anytime before orientation from most local uniform shops. There are several on Washtenaw Ave, just off campus. EMU nursing patches must be sewn on the upper left sleeve and can be purchased from the Student Center bookstore.

More clues can be found in last years student handbook at:

do you know anything about the stethoscopes? Do they need to be a certain color or type or doesnt it matter? and what about watches?

I dont think it matters what type of stethoscope.. I always have preferred a littman dual cardiology scope. I get mine from all heart.com. I also already got a couple sets of scrubs from Walmart.com. The scrub basic brand is cheap and durable for women.. Not sure for the guys out there though.. (I've been a medic and MA, so Ive had a few trusty scopes.. And littman never fails me :)

Does anyone know how this semester will work? will it be some clinicals a couple days a week and classroom lecture a couple days a week or lecture for the first part of the semester then clinicals the second half? Just Curious !

First semester looks like this:

Nurs 208 - Hybrid lecture/online

Nurs 209 - 2 days/week lab + 1 day/week clinical (clinical might be two days a week, hard to tell from the registration book)

Nurs 220 - online health assessment course

Nurs 275 - online writing/ research course

Bio 328 - Microbiology (if you havent taken it already)

how did you get all this information? will they send us a packet explaining all this?

I got the course schedule for each semester from the nursing intent info session. It is also available from last years student handbook which is available for download from the EMU Nursing site. The registration book for Fall 2012 has descriptions of class formats.

Hi

Just wanted to say that none of those classes are online only (or at least weren't last Fall). They all have an online week, but were otherwise on campus. Also - 209 is one day of skills lab on campus and one day of clinical. Our group ended up with class 4 days a week and had one day free, but every group is different.

First semester is hectic, but you'll get used to the schedule and format pretty soon. Lots of reading, but it went by really fast.

We have lost very few people, maybe one or two. I'm in the second bachelors cohort so am going all summer too. Let me know if you have other questions.

Good luck!

Thanks for clarifying. This fall's registration guide has several sections for 220 and 275 listed as DEO (Distance Education Fully Online Lecture).

Will our schedule's be set for us based on the group we are assigned to or, conversely, will our group be based on the schedule we choose?

will we not know our schedules until we go to orientation aug 30th?

i think the whole "keep us in the dark until a couple days before class starts" is done on purpose to get us used to running around last minute like lunatics

We did not get to pick our schedule. They assign you to classes and we got our schedule at orientation (I think). I think those that needed DTC and Micro did have some choice. They took these classes in the first and second semesters.

275 involves a lot of in-class discussion and learning/doing APA writing. 220 involves hands-on assessment so I'm not sure how they could do that online. We actually did head-to-toe assessments on each other. Actually I just looked and those fully online classes are only for RN to BSN or nursing completion. You guys will be in class, trust me.

They assign you to groups of 8 for clinical and lab. Although, I think some lab groups may have had two groups of 8. For 275/220, they split us into groups of 16 (Two 8-person groups). I think it was the same for the traditional students. 208 was one big lecture for all students.

Just get a good stethoscope and comfortable shoes. I would wait on the rest of the equipment they recommend and only get what you really need once you get going. You'll be spending plenty of $ on books and ATI.
