I hear all sorts of stories about disections in different nursing programs. Some use animals, some use cadavers...does anyone know how it's done at HFCC?

As far as I know, we don't dissect anything. But, then again, I am only in the first semester. However, I have never heard of this being done at HFCC.

I'm at HFCC too and I've never heard of us doing this - though I wouldn't really mind it. I haven't started the nursing program yet (hopefully this Fall!!)

Disections are usually part of A&P class, which at most schools is a pre-req for the nursing program, it's not done as a part of the actual nursing program.

From what I was told by my anatomy teacher at HFCC we do not do dissections due to the problems with Formeldihide (ex: if you are pregnant it can cause you to have a still birth) Our school was built a long time ago and does not have proper ventilation. However they are in the process of making a new science building (not anytime soon...it will take a matter of years ha) which will have the proper ventilation system and then HFCC will be able to do dissections.

I hope they put in a new parking lot before they do that! LOL! Wishful thinking, I know......

Ha yeah I wish! I hate parking!

Amen to the parking comments. As if it wasn't bad enough last semester, now they've taken away all that space back by the tennis courts we could park in. What's up with that!!!!:angryfire

Hi mybrowneyedgirl,

Hopefully me too! Winter at the latest. Maybe we'll end up in it together...

I was told by a prof. that the state backed out on the money promised for a parking structure last year.on another note, I went in the counnseling office wed. to get "officially" on the waitlist and there were not many names that were checked off on the list they had. It seemed that they were X-ing them off as they were accepted to the list.

What does that mean? I talked to Michelle in Nursing admissions over the phone back in December and she said she added my name to the waitlist. If you had to guess, how many do you think were on it?:icon_roll

she had a binder and was going through the pages looking for me, I noticed a few X's on each page and when she found my name she put an X by it. I'd say maybe 5-10 a page. and she didn't turn a whole lot to get to the R's, I don't know what it means I'm just hoping for a short wait.
