Anyone heard of Athena Career Academy?

U.S.A. Michigan

Updated:   Published

So I was searching on the internet for LPN programs in Michigan or Ohio, and this school popped up. I've never heard of them, I was wondering if anyone else had? I called the phone number, and they said there's no wait for the program, they have one starting in May and another in October. The school is in Toledo, and they have clinical sites in Michigan..You have to be a CNA or MA, they offer CNA training...

Hey Sirena & Porkey, Thax for the info on schools and no wkr lt behind! Tomarrow I am going to Davenport University on Dequinder rd. in Warren. I am gonna hear what their lpn program is about. There are prereqs though, INTRO CHEM. & COLL MATH U have to register by 5/16/08 for fall lpn. It cost just over 16k. Same as PSI Everest does have an lpn prog. in SFLD. I am going there too. I really would rather come back to Detroit

Porkey & Sirena, I used to attend TSPN in 2001. They have made ALOT of changes for entrance requirements. I only had to pass the entrance exam. It was alot easier than the NET. I am a CNA in Mi and waiting to test as a STNA in ohio 5/18/08. But I didnt need to be an aide back then. I dont live in Detroit. I moved to Toledo. Because of fuel prices! I is VERY popular in Detroit Their Jan 09 slots will be filled soon dont wait too long to apply Mar 09 will fill by Xmas!! Trust me!! I will pray for ya both for the best!! If I can help with any other info please reply. Peakaboo

Peakaboo have you found somewhere to stay in Toledo and if your there already can you get back into TSPN? What about the job market there, how is it?

hello all, i came across this forum because I too, am researching schools to become an lpn.... its all so confusing!! do any of you have advice for me? i looked into the athena, still looking into others... what is this no worker left behind? i live in michigan, about 30 minutes from toledo, i'm also a single mom and i'm not sure what options i have- any advice would be greatly appreciated, i feel as if i don't know where to get started! thanks

I go to PSI in the evening program. I am finishing up the 4th quarter. It is 6 quarters. It is expensive, i had to pay for it all, but I like the teachers. The clinical went well. My advice is to take psy, A&P, Nutrition and med term before hand and transfer it saves money and gas.You do have to test out of A&P, but I did it. The drive is killer, but I found a friend to car pool with. Good Luck

HI Im hope im replying right, Im new on here. I didn't qualify for fa or anything . But just about everyone there gets grants or something. The test is the DET, which is simular to the Net. I took the net at HFCC a few years ago and I thought the det was harder, I thought I might have failed, but they said I did very well on it. They start classes 5 times a year, but only one a year for evening. I lookd into Toledo school but they didnt have afternoons anymore. They only did it once.

I went to WCCCD and did the first semester in their program but the teachers, most of them not all, are horrible, so I quit. They are so much better at psi. Feel free to ask more questions.

Actually I went there to get more info. Im currently going to American Medical Careers. But for people that make under 40,000 a year go to mi works and get info on the no worker left behind. They can pay for it. The most they give is 10,000 a year and if its a year poss 15. They had a meeting on it friday about trying to give 15,000 for a year but this is only for careers in demand and depending on what your going through. If its at a comm college then they break it up the lowest amount is 5 grand the most is 10. I went to the clinic in lansing Im trying to get 10 grand but hoping for 15. But you have to act fast on this. Its a pain in the butt. but worth it. Good Luck.

I just made a post about your question. The no worker thing is where you can get free money from Mi works. I have gone there. If your going to one of these career academys theyll pay 10 grand the least is 5. I heard some even got 15. And 15 is only if your program is one year. They only do this once. I hear how much I get this week. I went to the mi works in lansing. I live about an hour and so away from there. But thats where my school told me to go to. I guess there getting the most hits out of that office. Talk to the school your going to they might be contracting them regrading other students. I go to american medical careers. I did look into athnea though. I didnt want to take another entrance test and they told me they couldnt tranfer my AP classes so I would have to re take them. THey told me this in May. Good luck. read my comment below.

Honestly I wouldnt go to either Evert or DAvenport. I went to DU last sem and didnt get into the program for LPN 08 I got all A's and the Everst a girl in my class went there and she ended up coming back to class she said the program there is a joke. They had no teachers and handed her a binder with about 25 cds in it and that was her teacher and its more than any other program around i think she said 25. I go to American medical careers in Flint. Theyre about 20 but it could be less if you have taken some other classes. Good luck!

Hi,

I just wanna tell some people this just so that you dont waste your time like I did.

I currently go to American Medical careers in FLint. I went to davenport last sem and got all A's did good on everything. They have a waiting list they tell you they dont. but they do. On our last day of class final day a man came in and handed us some info on diff programs and aslo asked if any of you are going into nursing try and look into other programs we got 600 applicants for the program and only accept 30! I just got my denial letter from them last week. Kinda late also.

Everst in southfield is a joke. A girl from my AP class went there and two weeks and came back to class. They were way more thean any program around i think she said 25 grand. She said they had no teacher they handed her a binder of cds about 25 or more and said study these. Honest to god.

American Medical and Athnea and toldeo school of LPN i think are really good. I chose American because my AP classes they took and Athnea didnt. I went to athnea in May. and toledo wanted me to take the net. Im sorry but Im done with taking all these entrance exams. So I stuck with American Medical.

NWLB I went to Mi works for this. you must go to an office for this. Fill out the paper work and take a test they will pay up to 10 grand for a one year program like the LPN I heard maybe 15. U have to make under 40 grand to apply to this. Its easy and worth it. Its free money but u need to do it fast. I hoped this helps.

Specializes in CNA, SPN, LPN.

Currently attending Athena Career Academy out of Monroe Mi.

I will graduate in 4 days from their Certified Nursing Assistant program.:D

Athena does have an LPN program. You have to drive to Toledo OH.

I accepted the No worker left behind grant from Mi works. If your income

is under $40,000 you should qualify. Not only did they pay $2050.00 for

the program, it also provided money for new shoes, scrubs for your first

job you accept, and also limited gas cards for travel.

Athena in June recieved review of their program. They passed and will

no longer be on conditional status. That means that possibly as early as

October they will be able to accept financial aid (pell grants).

Their program is $16,000 their are some unusual fees to enter program,

and HESI test I believe they said. The CNA program seemed pretty good.

The instructors are friendly. We had a LPN student with us on clinical

rotation the other day and she says she likes the program.

It is a tough decision. I really want to go to TSPN. However I am being

told that you get what you pay for. Well, $9,400.00 may be all I can

afford. I have a neighbor that is going to PSI paperwork and everything

completed, just took NET just waiting for results. So I guess it is a personal decision.

Also in regards to TSPN. They start a night 18 month program in Sept 2008,

but it is already full. As of right now for the 12 month daytime

M-F program the January 2009 program is full. Next available is March

2009.

If anyone who has attended TSPN could tell us a little more about their

program, it would be appreciated. I would like to do their program while

working full time as a CNA. Humanly possible?:typing

Nina

Hey Nina, I'm going to TSPN on the 5th to take my money for registration and testing. I'm going to try for March class. The lady I spoke with over the phone the other day said the next testing day is in November so I'll be taking that.
