Muses of a Male Nurse

Nurses Men

I've been asked numerous times before, what is it like to be a male nurse? I read the following answer somewhere, "The male part I've got down-it's the nurse part that takes a lot of hard work". How true. We aren't wannabe doctors, we can bring a different perspective on some things, and we enter into Nursing for a lot of the same reasons our female counterparts do. The U.S. Marines have adopted the following mantra in many units, "Adapt, Improvise, and Overcome". As a male, that kind of sums up my take on one reason I'm a NURSE. OORAH!!

The male part IS easy! All I had to do was go through this weird thing called puberty; suddenly, a bunch of hormones made me wear red plaid shirts and chop down huge trees with an ax! Sadly, testosterone doesn't do too much for my academic life :(

Too bad scrubs don't come in plaid!

Hmm, it's giving me a visual of full-on pajamas, and the current look of scrubs already hark back to that.

You just gave me a mental image of the Steve Martin film "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid".

With willy's and breasts all out of whack!
