I don't know about a preference of female over male, but the preference leans towards US educated nurses as opposed to foreign educated. There are a ton of threads here on AN about this

There are more females in this area but I would imagine it's just because there are more female Filipino nurses than male; similar to the US percentage.

In the US, Australia, and I assume the rest of the developed world, putting preference on one gender is considered discrimination, unless it is highly indicated for a specific task.

Yes I see a preference. My answer is based on my observation of our hiring patterns and some off the cuff remarks away from the facility in our downtime. This is not hospital policy and my comments do not reflect any specific facility. These are my personal opinions on the matter.
I see more males being hired than female RNs. All the males in my graduating class all got jobs within 3 months. I am talking about 36-40 hours a week benefited.

I am a Filipino and still taking pre requisites for the nursing program... I am currently working as a CNA at the assisted living facility... For the hospitals, i don't really see any preferences but for the facility where I work from, they prefer female especially dealing with elderly individuals..
