When the tech is getting relief... the gown is opened on the back table (near the edge) But I assume you mean when 1st setting up the case, and yes I have seen it but it is considered bad technique.

Removing jewelry before surgery is NOT because the staff might steal it or lose it while patient is under anesthesia. There is the possiblity of swelling and/or a burn from the electrocautery.
