Baltimore washington medical center has a novice nurse program which is specifically for new grads. It's a 16 week program which really eases you into the role as an rn.
Hey all!!! My husband and I are moving to Maine and I have two potential interviews at hospitals out there. Just curious, what pay rate should I suspect as a recent new grad with 6 months experience in a large hospital??? Thanks for any feedback.
Hi FutureRNBSN12 I graduated this past May with my BSN and I passed NCLEX on 9/11. I have experience as a Homecare provider as well as being a PCT while I was in my last year of nursing school. The manager I interviewed with told me that when she is interviewing she looks for someone who has had experience with waitressing or anything dealing with public relations. I have also had 2 years experience as a waitress and 2 years as a Student Dean at my former university. I know it's tough right now for new grads but I would suggest going in to shake hands and hand in resume/cover letter. They will probably tell you to apply online but be kind and courteous and make sure they know your name so when they see your app they will put two and two together. Have someone in the nursing profession look over your resume and cover letter before to make sure it's organized and looks good. ALso, the most important thing I have done is pray. I don't know what your beliefs are and I would hate to impose anything upon you but I know that God has a special plan for your life. The right door will open at the right time!!! I will say a prayer for you as you continue the search. I heard that Anne Arundel is going to have a new grad program in December and the posting for it should be up online the end of this month/beginning of October. Let me know if you need any other advice. Take care!! Keep your head up
Hey Jujubean!! How cool. I will hopefully meet you on Monday because I also accepted the offer yesterday wohooo Praise God!!!! So in regards to the interview yesterday, it went very good
Congrats on getting the job!!! I am about to be interviewed on PCU. what type of questions were you asked during your interview?? Should I review any specific material??
Does anybody know a person or two who interviewed on this floor????
Can't wait to hear your outcome I got a call from the hospital a little bit ago and today I have an interview on PCU this coming Monday. Apparently the Manager on Med/Tele says that she can see me as a surgical nurse and therefore recommended I interview on that floor. It was an answered prayer Keep u posted as well. Have a great weekend!!!
Hey all! I have my first interview on PCU (Progressive Care Unit) this coming Monday. What types of things should I study before hand? Any idea what kind of questions I will be asked about this particular unit?? Thanks in advance.
It would be a wonderful thing to meet at Orientation. If I make it I will ask who has a all nurses account lol. It sounds like you had a great interview and that you will land a job there by tomorrow. I went in today and did the share time with an RN and she told me like it was-very stressful and difficult unit to work on. She didn't recommend starting on that unit as a new grad. THat was so discouraging but then I spoke to 3 new grads (2 were going through the program now and 1 already completed it) and they all said good things about the program and how much support they get from the staff there. I am so nervous and these butterflies won't go away. I was told that I will hear by tomorrow and if not to call on Monday. I will be praying for us too. Keep me posted on how your peer to peer interview goes.
@Jayz1989...there are new grad programs at University of Maryland Medical Center and Johns Hopkins Hospital. As for Baltimore Washington Med Center, I believe the openings for the new grad program will be filled by this Friday so it's too late to apply. Keep looking online at the hospital websites and they will post openings when they are accepting new grads. Hope this helps. God bless you as you search for employment.
Hey JuJubean...what's the next step for you then?? I'm happy to hear your interview with the manager went well. I had my interview with the manager on Med/Tele today which went well (I was asked so many questions which was somewhat overwhelming.). I go back tomorrow for what's called "Share time" where I follow an RN for two hours to see how it is working on that unit. After tomorrow, we will go from there. I like the unit and it seems like a cool place to work. Just intimidating with all those tele strips lol. Keep me posted with how it goes for you.
Oh that's exciting!! When are you meeting with the unit manager? She is on Med Surg right? I also meet with manager today at 130pm. It is all in God's hands.
How did your interview go jujubeanRN?
Well I don't know about you, but I've realized that the job market is really tough for new grads especially if you don't have experience as a PCT or Nurse Tech. As for me, I will take any job offer I can get. The program is about 2 months long and is on a Med Surg unit. They say if you do well throughout the program you will more than likely have an easy time getting a job at their facility afterwards. Blessings to you as well. Hope your interview goes well.
I put in my application on August 31st and the program starts October 1st. I was also told that they're making final decisions this week. Have u heard from them? Do you know anyone who completed this program before? Thanks in advance. Have a great day
